Our training camp is one of the biggest and best in the world and certainly Thailand, with veteran fighters of the ultimate fighting championship favouring the Xtreme gap MMA Above all others to train for their fight, complete beginners can mix with UFC superstars and even train under them as well. It’s not just the quality of the training that sets us apart, is the quantity as well, with structured training sessions tiered to your level of experience and a huge access to training resources like specially imported MMA cages, a full and extensive gymnasium (we also run our Thailand fitness Boot Camp in the same location) there is nothing stopping you on this trip. The trip is all about the training, with the camp located on a quiet road in the middle of the south of the island of Phuket. The Muay Thai and MMA training at our training camp is versatile, offering Muay Thai/Thaiboxing and MMA training programs to suit everyone from beginners and amateurs to professional fighters looking to learn Muay Thai for fun, fitness, or self defence; to professionals wanting hone their fighting skills.

How the training is structured

We divide our MMA training classes into beginners, intermediates and advanced. Considering some of the worlds top UFC professional fighters come to trade at our, it is highly unlikely you would be in advance category (unless you sign up for 12 weeks), but with seminars taking place all the time from big names in the UFC there’s always combat sports superstars training at the camp. Royce Gracie to name but one person recently did a seminar there, and Xtreme gap students where training next Jon Fitch the UFC Welterweight Champion Contender. The MMA Camp runs on an organized schedule, which includes one-on-one training at every session. With six professional twins training rings are fully matted MMA training station and 8 meter MMA fight cage your sessions take place in a really positive training environment. Whilst the training is not full contact, it certainly hands-on and each month we host fight night, where you can sign up to get in the ring and try your luck at fighting opponent. Fight nights are exceptionally popular, and people come from all over Phuket to witness the fights take place.

There are two different MMA group training sessions

Morning group session (Monday to Friday). 2 hour beginner to intermediate training: 9:00-11:00 Open to anyone regardless of skill level or experience. This class is designed for the individual who is looking to discover the martial art of submission grappling or already has up to 12 months experience. Grappling arts will include Sambo, Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Catch wrestling, etc. The instructions will be focused on expanding your knowledge of grappling to improve your overall MMA performance. Afternoon group session (Monday to Friday) 2 and a bit hour intermediate to advance training. 16:00-18:15 Open to anyone with at least 12 months of experience in grappling art. Training for everyone looking to compete in Mixed Martial Arts. Instruction will be at a faster pace than the morning group training session and the focus will be more on strategy, conditioning, and overall performance. The training begins with 3 rounds of shadow, then pads and sparring under the supervision of a champion Muay Thai fighters. After the striking, class continues with various MMA oriented grappling drills, followed by a competition level cardio session. Training sessions are not mandatory, if you want a day off you are free to do so, but it is up to you to turn up and get involved! Cardiovascular Endurance and Plyometric Training

MMA, is superb for your fitness but an important part of the programme is developing your fitness levels so you can progress your skills in line with what you are physically capable of achieving. Because of this there is a lot of fitness orientated activities at the MMA school. Please note you will be expected to participate in train as hard as possible, although we know everyone will have different fitness levels, so exercises are tailored to the individual and you will never be left out due to inability to keep up.

That is why on arrival at the training camp you sit down with a rep of Xtreme Gap Year to go over the options and put together a schedule that will suit you best. You will be introduced tot he trainers to help get to know your way around the camp (we can have upwards of 200 people training here at one time, so this helps ease you in hassle free.

This means you can meet people online who will be training with you before you even go. It is not all hard work…. Training is tough, but to reward your hard efforts we hook you up with an awesome luxury accommodation set up complete with two pools. This is the perfect piece of paradise to relax in.

Accommodation

We offer our guests 3 different accommodation options at the training camp.

From Budget rooms to luxury Bungalows. All rooms are safe, clean and located on or close by the MMA training camp. At the training camp we also have high speed WiFi internet and a laundry service is available at extra cost for all our camp guests. If your accommodation does not have a pool, you can use several of the near by pools for about 2 euro a day (paid locally). In the immediate vicinity of the accommodations are restaurants, local bars, massage and spa facilities and shops. The camp is located in Chalong, this is not on the beach but the beaches are a short bike ride or taxi ride away.

Fighter Rooms:

These rooms are located on the campus. Each room has a single bed, fan, dresser, small fridge, TV/cable, DVD, and wifi Internet. There is a shared bathroom facility which is clean and has toilets, a hot and cold shower, and dressing areas located next to the rooms. These rooms are designed for people on a budget and provide immediate access to the training facilities. See more here.

Standard bungalows/rooms

Each gym bungalow is located at or very close to the camp (depending on availability) and comes with a large bed, fan or airconditioning, wifi internet, TV, DVD, cable, hot water shower, wardrobe and fridge. Maid service cleans the room 2 times per week. These rooms provide a luxury option but for people still with a tight budget. See more here

Luxury Bungalow:

Depending on availability we have bungalow located in lush gardens on site or at one of the 2 high class resorts located next to the camp. Most bungalows there is a pool and landscaped settings. You have your own veranda with good seats to rest after a day of training. MMA Equipment

Students will need to wear appropriate clothing including undergarments, shirt, and shorts (no zipper or ripped clothes). Gi pants may be worn. Finger and Toe Nails need to be trimmed and neatly kept. Individuals will be expected to own a mouth guard. Jock protector and cup are optional. After booking we will provide you with a detailed predeparture pack with kit list and lots of extra information.

Optional day trips and location.

The MMA gym is located in the center of Phuket island, not right next to the beaches or nightlife, but easily accessible should you want them. The Is set up for training, and is located on a small road next to the Thai jungle. On the road you will find plenty of shops and restaurants and built resorts and is a huge buzz all focused around one thing: the training. Because the meal plan includes two meals per day at the resort grill, where we serve a selection of healthy protein rich and nutritional meals when you’re not training as a great social atmosphere at the camp, everyone is really friendly and you get to know everyone pretty quickly. There is a wealth of optional activities that you can enjoy the local area, from elephant trekking, rock climbing hitting the beaches for some great snorkeling and relaxation you can even try-outs scuba-diving or hang out with Thai monks and their tigers! There are plenty of areas of interest sightseeing wise, including the great Buddha one of the largest in Thailand just a short ride away.

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have experience?
No, you do not need experience in MMA or other related sports. Actually most of the gappers who went there were beginners and had an amazing time. We will make you a personal programme, based on your skills and experience. So, no worries at all.
Who trains at the camp?
People come to the camp with lots of different personal goals, men and women, super athletes and people seriously out of shape! Don´t be surprised to find professional body builders rubbing shoulders with film stars, professional fighters.
What is the average age at the camp?
The average age of the participants is between 20 and 30, but there are quite some over 30 that train at the camp. There could be staying up to 100 people at the camp, so you will find like minded people for sure.
What does a training week look like?
At our training camp you can train from 07:00 to 19:00 from Monday to Friday. On Saturday there are group training sessions in the morning. In the afternoon there is ‘open mat’. Sunday is to chill and take a well deserved rest. Hit the beaches, hit the night life – you have earned it.
 
Which time of year is the best to go?
Phuket has a tropical monsoon climate. It is warm all year round. The best time to go is from November to March. Then it isn’t so humid, and the cool breezes keep things comfortable. The average temperature is around 75F to 89F (24C to 32C). During the year there are two periods the hottest: April to May and September to October. The September to October period is also the wettest.

Where are the beaches?
The beaches are about  6km from the camp. The best way to get there is by bike, scooter or taxi. There are always more people going in the weekends, so you can join each other. In the neighbourhood there are pools, and if you stay at our luxury resort you can chill by one of the two pools it offers!
How far is the training camp from the airport and the town centre?
At the training camp you are a 20 minutes taxi ride away from Phuket town and 40 minutes from the airport.
I am a vegetarian. Can I come?
Vegetarian and Vegan’s also have options at the restaurant. Not all the fun has been taken out of the menu – you can still get French fries made with unpeeled potatoes! Also included at the Restaurant for extra costs is our protein and fruit shake bar offering a wide variety of Fruit and protein shakes and a selection of drinks to keep our guests maintaining a high amount of protein in their diet to help build muscle and lose fat.
Do I need a visa?
If you are planning on travelling to Thailand for 28 days or less and you have British, Dutch or USA passport you can get a Visa exemption on arrival. This is valid for 28 days and cannot be extended in Thailand. If you are planning on being in Thailand longer than 28 days you will need to pre-arrange a Visa. You can prearrange a visa for 60 days which you can extend to 90 days in Thailand. There are two ways of arranging your visa. When you are from the UK. You can either go in person to the Thai embassy in London, or you can post your passport along with the necessary documentation and fee to one of the Thai Consulates. In general this works the same for the other countries like The Netherlands and United States too, but please contact the nearest Thai Consulate for visa inquiries. Please note that you are responsible for arranging your own visa. Xtreme Gap cannot be held responsible if you fail to travel with the correct visa. So please check with your local embassy personally. The previous information is meant as a guide, but visa rules change often and frequently. So do not take this as the current law.
