Learn Spanish in Spain

Spanish is the world’s second most widely spoken language and incredibly easy to learn. You don’t have to go all the way to South America to pick up new Spanish language skills when you can take a three-hour flight from the UK to the Costa Del Sol which boasts the best weather in Europe and do an intensive Spanish crash course with Xtreme Gap.

Combining 20 hours of Spanish with loads of really cool cultural activities in the major cities of Málaga, Granada and Seville, with some optional Xtreme adventures along the way, you can top up your tan, devour tasty tapas, and immerse yourself in flamenco culture all the while perfecting your Spanish on this exciting Spanish-language programme.

What will I do on a daily basis?

We have daily classes in the morning and afternoon, and you will be given a timetable schedule during your orientation.

In general you will be learning Spanish getting to know your classmates, but you will also have plenty of free time to enjoy the awesome vibe of living in Malaga a truly beautiful city. The great beauty of studying Spanish and Malaga, is that not only is this one of the sunniest cities in Europe it also boasts several beaches within walking distance to the school accommodation. The language school set in the heart of the city, is in a historical building, located right next to the ancient Moorish citadel, and just a couple of metres from the old town.

Great shopping, big markets, beautiful old world Heritage listed streets, and trendy modern bars in the New port development make this an eclectic melting pot, and a great place to spend your summer.

Really social environment.

Groups tend to get very social, and no downtime you can expect to be hanging out with your new friends from all over the world and exploring the city, and nightlife. No two days will be the same however, as we also organise quite a few excursions and trips during the course, for instance we will take you off to either Granada, Seville or Cordoba where you can visit some of the most famous monuments in Spain.

This trip really represent the perfect mix for a great summer, a couple of hours a day devoted to learning Spanish in improving your life skills, with amazing weather, good times with new friends and superb nightlife that really does go on all night if you want it.

Just be sure you can handle it if you’ve got an early morning class the next day!

Location

The majority of this program takes place in Málaga, the major city on the south coast of Spain. Málaga has beautiful beaches, beautiful architecture and is an exciting student town with plenty going on during the day and late into the night. Walking through the winding backstreets of the old town you can follow in the footsteps of Picasso or wander along Calle Marques de Larios, Málaga’s finest shopping street. Take in the sights of the beautiful cathedral and the Alcazaba, a muslim fortified palace, or sit back and relax with a glass of chilled cava along the ultra-chic waterfront.

Our partners the Picasso language school will conduct your lessons in the centre of Málaga, right amongst all the heart of the action with the hundreds of bars and shops and restaurants all around. When you are not studying there is plenty to see and do in this beautiful city.

The academics

Whilst all of your lessons (20 hours per week) will be conducted in Málaga there are day trips to other cities and locations in Andalusia, one of the highlights will be heading to Granada, a couple of hours inland from Málaga. Here you can get involved in the Xtreme adventure canyoning, as an optional extra, before you check out the world famous Alhambra Palace and take a stroll through the charming Moorish streets and alleys.

How are the lessons delivered?

The lessons are all delivered in Spanish, because we have students from all over the world it would not be fair to deliver the lessons in one language over another. But they are structured in a proven way that actually gets your Spanish up to speed a lot quicker. You will find between two and eight weeks you can really improve your Spanish.

What is the average length of time for someone to join this course?

The average length of time for people to join the Spanish classes between two and eight weeks. If you’re from the European Union there really is no limit to how long you can stay there and it is possible to even stay for up to 46 weeks (a full academic year). Just ask us for details. If you are from outside the European Union, then you will have a maximum VISA time of 90 days so you can study up to 12 weeks.

Activities

Also included during your time in Málaga there will be a trip to the Picasso Museum. Christened with no less than 23 names, Pablo Picasso has become known as the son of Málaga.  See one of the famous Andalusian flamenco shows  and then hit some of the bars and restaurants in Málaga centre to finish off your evening.  Don’t forget of  course to spend plenty of time in the gorgeous sunshine on the beach.

Xtreme activities

For those interested in doing some extreme activities during the weekend we can head down to Tarifa, aka the wind capital of Europe, where you can learn to kite surf with some of the worlds top kite surf instructors. With Málaga being located on the south coast you are just a stones throw from Africa so for the really adventurous you can do weekend trip to Morocco to go and haggle in the markets, and eat some tagine.

Spanish cuisine

You can’t come to the Costa del Sol without trying some paella, so during the week you will be taken out to dinner with the rest of the group to eat this mouthwatering Spanish delicacy. Of course it might not be as delicious as it should be because you will in fact be doing the cooking. On our paella evening we will be teaching you how to make the dish!!!!

If you have any room left over you’ll be pleased to know there are hundreds of tapas bars located on your doorstep.  Tapas are small snacks that can be washed down with a cool glass of San Miguel, a locally brewed beer.  Be warned all this tasty food is incredibly moreish.

Language lessons

Spanish lessons are fun and educational with native Spanish speakers and take place twice a day. There are two main sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon with up to 4 hours per day. There’s plenty free time to explore the city, hit the beach and hang out with your new friends. Both beginners and intermediates are very welcome to join as classes are tailored to your level so whether you want to pick up the lingo or improve your already strong Spanish levels you will be well looked after.

Accommodation

You will be accommodated in a shared apartment within a short walk to the school. This will be based in the city centre so everything is walkable. Meals are excluded, but you are a short walk to the markets where there is plenty of fresh fruit and you can buy meals readily and cheaply locally. There are plenty of inexpensive restaurants and eating out is a very social activity in Spain. Visit one of the local restaurants, sit outside with some of your new friends, share a jug of chilled sangria and watch the world go by.
