Spot X surf camp

We had to say good bye to one guy because he did the surf trip the other way around, he had already been at Spot X. And this is the weird thing about travelling…even after knowing someone 2 days, catching a wave together (well in my case trying t stand up and cheering for him because he caught a wave) and having a laugh it feels sad to see goodbye. People you get to know during travelling you may never see again but will stay in your hart forever, some people you forget immediately and some you will bump in again during your journey.

Any way we did some surfing in the morning said our goodbyes to everyone at Crescent Head, Grommet the dog, Fonzie the Baby, and the amazing crew! The big green bus brought us in 2,5 hours to our new home for the next 2 nights.
Different here!! A lot more people, music at night, more of a party vibe ad the accommodation was spread out over Ron Finch his beautiful camp ground right at the beach. I could see everyone was happy to arrive with others hear because changes are always a bit scary. Us being the owners of Xtreme Gap got great single accommodation (ohhh, I know you wish you had a travel company too) and the rest was split in 2 shared dorms. All facilities were good, clean and funky because they have their own artists at the camp…and their own masseur, and some people make boards, some work as a chef etc etc. Here it is possible to stay and work for accommodation and surf. They recognize your skill and that you love to surf and they give you the option to live and eat and surf for free as long as you do a good job. That to me sounds better that woofing: working on a organic FARM , no pay just lodging.

Some dipped their head in the sea and gave the surf another try, Oliver and I worked and met each other again during dinner. Wow Nice food again, camp fires, lots of cool but mainly friendly people and lots of wine and beer. Or actually a lot of cheap wine that is not actually wine but it is served out of a plastic bag (hidden in a carton box) made of fish balls, egg and I do not know what… Felt that the next morning.

But surfing takes away all hangovers, just like diving!
We had a talk with all managers and a long talk to John. John is THE surf coach in Australia. He is an ex pro and people stay here months extra or come back from other surf camps just to learn more from him. Guys that have surfed for 10 years, like Pieric, he teaches a few new tricks in 10 minutes and they really improve their surf. We have nice footage of his training. Obviously us beginners had other coaches and John does the 1 to 3 month surf courses, I will tell you more about them later.

On November 4 we left to head out to Byron Bay. All of us proud because we know how to surf and what the surf life style is. Exited to go on another adventure and a gain a bit sad because we left behind 2 more of our group that really started to become friends. But thank Mister Mark Zuckerburg for his invention (Facebook).
