Kat and Pete on a Koh Tao Adventure

Hi All,

Peter and I are now in Koh Tao, which is a small island in Thailand. The island is really small but so nice. We are staying at the Asia Divers resort and our accomodation is similar to Greenway, in the fact we only have cold water in the bathroom, but we do have a tv in the room which is good for days like today, because it has been raining heavily and there is not much to do when it rains!

We had a rough journey here, we got on the night coach from Bangkok and it took us to a port, an 8 hour drive away. When we got there we had to hang around for a couple of hours but we watched he sun rise which was gorgeous. We then boarded the Catamaran and the sea was very rough, almost every one on board was throwing up, I felt so ill that I had to sit on the floor with my head between my legs and I was holding my stomach tight, I felt very faint and the two hour journey felt like 10 hours. Pete didnt manage to keep it down but sick bags were complementary. Everyone was carrying see through sick bags, most of them full, it was disgusting!

Moving on to something more pleasant, we got to the resort and met Oliver and Debbie who own Xtreme Gap. They booked the whole trip for us and it was really nice to meet them in person. We had dinner with oliver and his parents last night who are also visiting and it was lovely. The beaches here are lovely and the sea is nice and warm. There are palm trees all over the island too. It’s paradise!!

Koh Tao

Pete and I are totally chilled out here, though things here are simple and there are not many home conforts. Like everytime you have a shower it’s freezing and the shower floor is the bathroom floor and so if you shower the floor is flooded for the day! Though our floor never seems to dry, oh and we squashed a bug or lizard or something in the hinges of our door and when we came back from a day out yesterday there were thousands of ants everywhere that were eating the bug. I had to run to reception to get a cleaner to help us sort it out. YUK!

Yesterday we had an adventure day which was supposed to include abseiling, rock climbimg, and a trip on the boat to an area where we can snorkell. The boat wasnt working so we snorkelled around the bay and agreed to go out on the boat another afternoon once it has been fixed.

Abseiling was fun, we went up a small mountain to a rock called fraggel rock and we abseiled off it, it was about 23 metres high. Pete went first and we managed to get some awesome photo’s. I love abseiling and have done it plenty of times before, so I really enjoyed it. Our last abseil we did together which was awesome, though I got a head start due to a wasp that seemed to have a crush on me! When we were on top of the mountain, amongst our amazig view we saw some eagles in the distance circling around looking for prey!

We did rockclimbing and we think I was bitten by a caterpiller! We both did two climbs and even though again I have a bit of experience, Pete turned out to be the better climber. It was great fun and just like Fraggel rock, when we got to the top we had views of the whole island. Amazing!

It was an awesome day, and so in the afternoon we just chilled out at the beach and we had a bit of a snorkell around the reefs near the shore.

We have 4 Yoga Sessions prebooked for us, we did one. But I don’t think yoga is really my thing. Pete was the only guy but did pretty well, surprsingly! I on the other hand just couldn’t get into it and when I started to get into it at the end we all had to relax and close our eyes! Then a mosquito came and bit my eye, it just wasnt meant to be! I might have one more attempt though before I give up on yoga completely.

We are booked into have a couple of massages too, which we are both looking forward to.

Everyone on the Island drives scooters or bikes so we are hiring a couple out later today or tomorrow and I have to teach pete how to ride, I’ll let you know how we get on next time.

Until then, take care!
