Feedback Rock Climbing Koh Tao

Brigit 32,  The Netherlands

We arrived at Koh Tao in the afternoon and it was crazy busy with taxi drivers whom all want to drive you to where ever you need to go. I totally lost my mind!! Thank god there already was a taxi waiting from the Resort. The resort was sweet; we had a nice room with TV, aircon, a hot shower and a very comfy bed.

The next day we started our Beginner Rock Climbing course of three days. The team Xtreme Gap works with is awesome! Our guide was Derry, a super enthusiastic guy from New Zealand. The morning was filled with an introduction in rock climbing and “dry-practicing”. After an incredibly good lunch (besides all the extreme sports, the kitchen here is the best on the Island! Especially the Aussie Surf ‘n Turf with Belgium Fries – YUMM), we go up the mountain. The ride to the climbing location might be more frightening then the climb itself, the road is very steep.

We had a small group, just us and a French couple, which was great coz everybody gets the attention they need. The climbs were very adventurous and the views were incredible especially on the highest point of the Island “Fraggle Rock”. For Aeden this was a dream coming true. He always wanted to climb but due to work obligations he never had the chance. We can state that I have a few tini tiny symptoms of fear of heights. What am I talking about? I don’t think I was ever this scared in my life!

Coming back in the office Derry and Charlie talked to us about the second and third day of the course. These 2 days are part of the Advanced Rock Climbing Course and this is mostly about building anchors – the more advanced stuff. Because we are beginner-beginners; they offered us another program or our money back. We were really impressed with the honesty they showed according the money. Truly awesome people!!

Day two we had a new guide, Bart. He took us for a 45 minute hike to up and down the mountain. When we arrived we were soaking and we couldn’t wait till we could jump that cliff to cool down in the water. There were three different heights, 3, 9 and 12 meters.  It was awesome! What an adrenaline kick. After all the excitement we went snorkeling and we even saw a blacktip reef shark!! After 3 hours we got picked up and dropped back at Good Times.

The 3rd and last day we went back to face my fears at Fraggle Rock for a 35 meter abseil. OMG how awesome is this!!! Unfortunately, besides my fear of heights, I was coping with too many Buckets in my blood from the night before. Hehehe. According to Charlie I was good entertainment. We have some amusing video footage to prove it. When I’m done standing in the corner of shame I will post it on the site.

Looking back on this week… We had the time of our lives! Yeah even I..

EXTREME GOOD TIMES!

Aeden and Brigitte
