I loved this trip! I had never travelled in Asia before, but did not want a daily set itinerary with a big group, so the backpackertrip sounded great. Also it was cheap compared to any other programme. Good hotel in Bangkok, nice tours and I absolutely loved Koh Tao!
Tom, Netherlands. Longtail boat around Koh Tao
Longtail? What is a Long Tail? The Longtail boat earns its name from the long rod in the back of the boat that holds up the motor and propeller. The Longtail boast on Koh Tao are mainly used as taxi´s and to take people on to day trips to go to Koh Nang Yuang.
The boats have a holy area in the front. Do not sit there! It is stuffed with flowers and sometimes some food for the gods.
All around the island!
Koh Tao and the little island just of the coast called Koh Nang Yuan have the best snorkeling spots in the Gulf of Thailand. This one day tour affords you plenty of beach and snorkeling time. You and the others gather at the beach, just a 5 minute walk from the resort you are staying and hop on the Longtail boat. The Thai captain will take you to the most beautiful places where you can swim and snorkel. The crystal clear water will surprise you! It is stunning. Going around the island gives you a good idea of how beautiful Koh Tao really is.
It has very green palm tree hills, many small and stunning beaches and lime stone cliffs. The boat man brings fins, snorkels and mask, drinks and lunch! So all you have to do is get on board, relax and stick your head in the water every now and then to cool off and say hi to mister fish.
What fishes will you most likely see while snorkeling in the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand surrounding Koh Tao? The Harlequin Sweetlip, Long Tail Banner fish, Nemo, Sergeant Scissortail fish and on a good day you see blue spotted sting rays and turtles, on a great day you might see a reef shark and an incredible day you might even see a Whaleshark just like we did when we visited Koh Tao in January.
On a bad day you might meet mister trigger fish, who get triggered and puts his trigger on his head up when you come to close to his well protected nest and will chase you! Hahahha!!
This was a very memorable day where I met new friends, saw new things, and met the fishies. Loved the tour.
