Lonely planet about the dive site Julian Rock, Byron Bay
A number of dive outfits in Byron Bay take advantage of the town's close proximity to the Julian Rocks Marine Reserve. About 3km off shore, this reserve has been rated one of Australia's top ten dive sites, with over 600 species of fish plus whales, dolphins and turtles.

I started with just my Open water course and now after 10 weeks I am a Divemaster! Can not believe I am now able to work in the ocean. The thing is you are surrounded by happy people everyday, most people diving here are on a holiday and looking for a good time. Living at the dive school has been brilliant. Never a dull moment. I share a room with a guy from Italy and we became really good friends. You do not go out to party that much because the diving is quite tyering so we chilled a lot at the dice 'house' wich was great!
