Learn to Dive with Sharks, South Africa Information
Our partner in South Africa is a dive operation with a huge focus and emphasis on ocean / shark research and conservation. They have a 23 years of experience in the dive industry.
For the learn to dive with sharks course we will first teach you how to dive and train you from open water diver up to rescue diver. This will take about 1,5 weeks.
After this you will start the shark specialist diver training. All training will take place in The Aliwal Shoal, here you find a huge array of fish species as well as rays, turtles, sharks and manta’s, and also schools of dolphins and pods of whales are frequent visitors. Supervised at all times by top shark diving experts.

The Shark Specialty Courses
The Black Tip Shark Specialty Course
This course, in conjunction with SHARKLIFE is designed to introduce you to the Blacktip Shark species and to help you develop an understanding and knowledge of Blacktip shark biology and behaviour, as well as learn techniques for diving with Blacktip sharks.
This course includes :
- A shark conservation section and highlights the importance of personal involvement in preserving the aquatic environment. This enables you to plan, organise and execute a dive with Blacktip sharks in a confident and passive manner.
Highlights: the global threats facing sharks, overviews the importance of sharks and their conservation and gives insight into local research efforts
The Tiger Shark Specialty course
This course, in conjunction with SHARKLIFE is designed to introduce you to the Tiger Shark species and to help you develop an understanding and knowledge of Tiger shark biology and behaviour, as well as learn techniques for diving with Tiger sharks.
This course includes :
- A shark conservation section and highlights the importance of personal involvement in preserving the aquatic environment. This enables you to plan, organise and execute a dive with Tiger sharks in a confident and passive manner.
Highlights: the global threats facing sharks, overviews the importance of sharks and their conservation and gives insight into local research efforts
Ocean Awareness / Project Aware
At our South Africa Shark Specialty dive operation we places a huge emphasis and focus on ocean conservation and shark research. You will be thought about vital importance that we all play in protecting what we have, not just for our future generations, but for the good of the planet and for the fragile balance in our oceans.
Accommodation
Accommodation is situated in shark park in comfortable lodging with private swimming pool, breakfast is not included but can be ordered locally and is very reasonable value.
Getting there
The dive operation is situated on a 100 hectare farm on the northern banks of the Umkomazi River in Umkomaas, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. 40km from Durban CBD and only 25km from Durban International Airport. We will pick you up from Durban Airport. We can also assist you with flights.

Itinerary Learn to dive with sharks South Africa
Arrival:
On day one there will be a warm welcome at the airport. We will bring you to your accommodation where you will meet other divers.
Day 2-4:
introduction on he course and start of your Open Water Course.
Day 5-6:
Open water course
Day 9-11:
Rescue diving course
Day 12:
Start of the shark specialty courses. Depending on season and weather.
Day 13 - 26:
Diving and learning all about the ocean
Day 27:
Good byes
We will take you out on trips and there will be free time to explore Durban and surroundings.
