Swakopmund tucked away in the north west of Namibia, is a city 280 km (175 miles) west of Windhoek, Namibia’s capital. It was founded in 1892 and was intended to be the main harbour of German South-West Africa. It still retains many examples of German colonial architecture. As a seaside resort, the weather is cooler here in December to January (Namibia’s summer months) it has a distinctly german colonial feel in town, but that is not all that Swakopmund has to offer. Action and adventure await any traveller brave enough to take up the challenge (on any one on our Africa Overland Tours) because Swakopmund offers Sandboarding, Skydiving and Quad biking! The scenery is as spectacular as the fun you will have with huge sand dunes for miles around as the Namib Dessert boarders the town and the coast.
