Hi all,
Peter and I are having a great time, We have now left Greenway and we are staying in Bangkok, on a street next to the famous Koa San Road. It is huge and reminds me of the Ramblas in Barcelona. The hotel is called the Viengtai and it’s really different and a nice break from where we were staying before, We now have warm water!
Our friends from Greenway have also decided to spend the Weekend in Bangkok and are staying just down the road from us, We all met up for dinner last night and might meet up again tonight for a couple of drinks and to say good bye. Saying bye is going to be really sad as we have all bonded really well and have become like a big family in just the 5 days we were together.
Tomorrow we are spending the day in Bangkok before checking out of the hotel and getting a night bus to where we are getting a boat to Koh Toa. Our tour operator who booked our trip is there at the moment and we will get to meet him there which will be really cool as we haven’t met him in person before.
In the past few days we have visited lots of temples and learnt how to speak some of the thai language, Sawadee ka is hello for a girl and Sawadee Krub is hello for a boy. We have also had a cooking lesson, we made a salad which was so spicy that my eyes were watering and pete had to run and eat some sweet bread, it was very funny. Then we made rice noodle in a sauce and then banana in coconut milk. My favourite drink here is coconut. It is a real coconut which is not yet ripe so It is green, and you chop of the top and use a straw to drink the milk, it is so nice.
We went to Lop Buri which is a town full of monkeys. There were monkeys everywhere. They were so cute and they sat on my lap and jumped all over me. The locals say that they like the monkeys and will never move them because the monkeys where there first. I bought my sister laura a monkey made out of beads because she loves monkeys. We also went to visit a local school and there were bouncy castles and rides and games on the field form the children to play on, this is because today is national Children’s day and it is all about having fun. The children were very cute and we had a go at karaoke in the school hall.
We also went to a palace and this is where the king from the King and I lived. I saw his bed, and also Mrs Anna’s Chalk board. I wanted to take a picture but I was not allowed. But My thoughts where with the cast of King and I and everyone at Hitchin Thespains at the time.
Today we visited the Grand Palace which was amazing. I have never been to a place quite like it, it was stunning. We also visited another temple and then had a look on the street stalls on the way back to the hotel.
We went to the Tesco store the other day as well and it was so strange, it was not quite the same as our tesco but had the same sort of idea, it was cheap and sold almost everything. Today we also found a Mc donald’s and Ronald Mc Donald was Thai, we took a picture because we thought it was strange.
Pete and I love Thailand, It is really warm and full of colour and life. We have tried a lot of new things and have learnt a lot about the culture here too.
I have put a few of my pictures on facebook, though they are not edited yet! But there are a couple more attached to this email.
Pete and I might get a Australian sim card when we get to Australia, because it will be cheaper but the simcards we have now will still be active and we will keep them in our phones and just change simcards when we want to call or reply to a text. so if you get a reply form a different number, it is still us, but it is cheaper to reply on local sims.
There is nothing more to report yet, I don’t think. We are loving it here apart from I have been bitten by a couple of mosquito’s. ha-ha.
Hope to write again soon
