Climbing Kilimanjaro is a real challenge, many try it but not everyone makes it. If you want to give it a shot we have a great itinerary for you.
Here a short version of the climbing Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route.
Starting you will be pick up from Kilimanjaro airport and the transfer to the Town of Moshi is included. There the other travellers and a nice meal will be waiting for you. We stay in a nice hotel.
On day one of the climb we depart from the hotel in the morning after packing all climbing equipment. After that we will go by private transport to Nale-Moru gate. The climb begins at the village of Nale Moru at 1950 meters, first through cultivated land before entering the beautiful pine forest. There will be monkeys here, this is fun! The trail will take 3 – 4 hours to the first camp, this is on the edge of the Moorland zone where the forest begins to thin out at First Cave at a height of 2600 meter. Here we will stay overnight.
On day two we will leave in the early morning and ascent up to Second Cave 3450 meter, her you have amazing views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim. Than we go on for 3 to 4 more hours and 3800meters we reach our camp for the night, 3rd Cave Camp
On day three we continue ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. It will take us 4 to 5 hours to reach Kibo Hut at 4700meters. That is it for the day (but we start again around midnight)…The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent which begins around midnight.
Day four is an early morning rise. We will summit a steep and heavy mount and will arrive just in time before sun rise (!) at Gilman’s Point 5681meters. If you want to reach the highest point in Africa you can take the approximately three hour excursion to Uhuru Peak and climb on to 5896meter, passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. Finally time for the descent to Kibo, you will be surprised how fast this goes. We will stop for some refreshmenst and continue the descent to reach the final campsite at Horombo 3700meter. This will take 11 to 15 hours. We will overnight Horombo Camp
On day five we have a steady descent before us. Down through the Moorland to Mandara Hut and then downward through the lush forest on a good path to the National Park gate at Marangu. The nature is breathtaking here. This descent will take about 5 to 7 hours and down you will be met transferred to your Hotel for dinner and overnight. You have done it, we hope you had an amazing sports gap year by this time!!!!
Day six is the last day. There is a pick up from your hotel in the morning .. to go to your next gap year destination
