Christchurch is a city in the South east of New Zealand and is also known as the Gateway to the South Island. The Xtreme Gap New Zealand Adrenaline tour starts or end here, depending on your preference you can also start the tour in Auckland in the North Island.
Christchurch has a nice balance between metropolitan buzzle and tranquility. It is a nice city to hill for 1 or two days. There are nice parks, there is the Avon River to enjoy by gondola, there is a possibility to see Christchurch by hot air balloon. Christchurch has many nice restaurants and many good Asian food places. We just had a very nice meal at little India! Also Christchurch has a nice museum you can visit for free. The Canterbury Museum. The museum is world renowned for its collections. You will not only see what life was before early settlers, but also the history of local Maori.
We have selected Base backpackers to be the accommodation provider for Xtreme Gap. We have been and stayed in the hostel ourselves. The owners Gin and Phil are the most welcoming people and they will do anything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The accommodation is very central, so all is in walking distance.
Do not think you find big cultural difference here from the UK, but it is a good start, or end of your trip with nice bars and restaurants to let to know other travelers or say good bye to travel friend before you go home or move on.
We are about half way our tour and will move towards the north island tomorrow. First Kaikoura and hopefully see some dolphins and whales, than on to wellington by bus and ferry, very excited about what the north island has to offer.
