Well I did the 23 day long course and I can tell you, it was amazing! It was really worth my money and you really learn how to sail a proper yacht! I never sailed before in my life but now I'm addicted! It is so awesome to sail over there, especially with the blue water and the white beaches!
The chance that you get a job afterwards is really high, cause the sailing company lives on backpackers who travel around and wanna stay for a few months! It is a really pleasant company to work for, the people who run the company are really nice and the colleagues are also great to work with.
I built up some great friendships during my time over there, especially with my colleagues. So if you're in doubt about doing it, I would say, just take a chance cause I know you're gonna have one of the best times of your life. At least that happened to me!

The trip for me was really good as I was seeking a career in Marine Tourism. The 23 day course was pretty full on! It included, six day five nights International Crew Certificate (IYT), 12 nights as extra crew on their Maxi Yachts, six nights accommodation (dormitory style) in Airlie Beach, 17 days of meals, Crew uniforms, tuition, notes, Log Book and Certificate. After completion of course they arranged a meeting with the Human Resource Manager, and was lucky enough to get employed. The nice thing on the course was that we had time to explore and go swimming, snorkeling and visit the beach.
I am now a crew member and spend my time as an extra crew member on a series of 2 and 3 day sailing course trips discovering the Great Barrier Reef and Islands.
