Thailand Travel Costs

Thailand travel costs won't break the bank as Thailand is a cheap country to go to thanks to desirable foreign currency exchanges and an inexpensive quality of life. Those on a tiny budget should be in a position to get by on about 600B to 700B each day outside Bangkok and the major beach islands. This amount covers basic food, guesthouse accommodation and local transport but excludes night-long lager chugging sessions, arranged tours, long-distance transport or vehicle hire. Visitors with extra money to spend will find that for about 1500B or more a day you can live like a king.

Bangkok is a handy place to spend on a hotel for recovery from a long flight or to celebrate returning to 'civilisation'. In the provinces, guesthouses have a tendency to be the highest value even for bigger budgets.

Market meals are less expensive and better tasting than guesthouse fare but you will need a little local language and a venturesome stomach. ATMs are far-ranging and are the simplest methods to get Thai baht. Have a prepared supply of US dollars in notes, if you want to do a border run ( crisp new notes are preferred ). Visa cards are accepted in the much bigger towns and resort hostels but not in family-run guesthouses or cafes.
