The ultimate African field guide course set in the Kruger National Park. Want to experience moments when your heart is pumping so loud that you can hear it? The adrenaline surging through your veins as you crouch, trying not to make a sound, just metres away from a full grown African lion? Our field guide course will offer you countless encounters with the big five and an incredible moments of exhilaration at the same time.

Field Guide Course, South Africa Essential Info

If you want to experience the real Africa, discovering Africa's wild places, living out among the wild animals of South Africa's largest game reserve area then this field guide course is for you. Our wild life training courses are conducted from our bush camps  inside the Kruger national park. This is no game farm experience dressed up as a field guide course, you will be staying and learning in areas where you eat, sleep and breathe the African bush. Growing your knowledge and skills in becoming a field guide. This is the real deal.

Our field guide course teaches you how to track, approach and work with wild animals in the natural environment. It includes sleep outs in the bush, 4x4 driving, shooting and learning about the animals and their environment. Being an FGASA accredited course also means that this field guide course is a recognized qualification and can lead to working in the field of wildlife conservation or wildlife tourism as well. Working on of the world's best National Parks - The Kruger. Approaching big game on foot including lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant and rhino.

Who typically does this course?

The course is open to all, people taking the course do not all wish to work in the industry, some of our customers undertake the course to get a good understanding of the bush and to experience more than your typical Safari holiday, others are gap year travellers wanting to get the most out of their South Africa gap year.

Accommodation

Throughout the field guide course you will stay in a luxury tented camp, this means running water and beds! However don't expect all the mod cons, electricity is only run with a generator  occasionally so bring a good supply of batteries. the camp is open so animals can wander into the camp especially at night.

Getting There

The programme begins in The Kruger in South Africa.

If you would like assistance with your flights, we can assist with sourcing the best value flight options, just indicate on your booking form.

Why Xtreme Gap?

We know there are other South Africa field guide courses available, some are significantly cheaper. We choose not to work with the cheap course providers for good reason: The main reason would be in our quality of instruction, camp and service and in our game reserves. Most of our competitors operate out of game farms and not reserves of our size.

Check what you are getting:
We conduct our courses in great wilderness areas including one of the greatest national parks in the world, the Kruger National Park. Our students spend their entire course living in the middle of the African wilderness, with wild animals potentially right outside their tents. We do not conduct our courses in air-conditioned lecture rooms in urban areas and then take you on "field trips". The entire course is a "field trip". We don't just have "access" to wilderness areas, we actually live in the wilderness areas. Our camps are unfenced and mostly canvas, so you are in touch with the wilderness all the time.
How long has the training company been in business? Are they reputable?
Our partner was the first company to offer dedicated field guide training. They only do training, and they are very good at it. They have stood the test of time and have many happy customers, many of whom return to do further courses.
