Panda Conservation China Essential Info
Panda conservation volunteers are needed to help with wildlife conservation efforts, with less than 1600 pandas remaining in the world, your time can be spent helping out at one of China´s top Panda breeding projects. You will assist with careing for the pandas, feeding, medical check ups and interacting with them. You will be supervised by expert panda handlers, and taught how to care for the animals.
Please note that you will not be given access into the Panda enclosures unsupervised, as although they are kinda cute, they are still dangerous animals (and pretty good at Kung Fu too), although you will be able to handle panda cubs if required, and you can expect to learn a lot about Panda´s and their natural habitats.
During the course of the project you will be required to, prepare food for the pandas, they like to eat apples, panda bread, carrots, and of course Bamboo. You will serve their food, clean their enclosures, observe and do research on the pandas, and help in providing medical care for the pandas. You will also have time to watch and photograph the pandas.
The Panda Conservation Facility
China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) is located in Wolong Nature Reserve and was established by Chinese
government in co-operation with WWF in 1980. With their efforts spanning 2 decades, the facility has been successful in over coming 3 problem areas, significantly effecting the decline of the panda population in the wild:
- Difficulty mating,
- Pregnancy
- Infant survival.
With the help of wildlife conservation volunteers, there are now in a total of 43 litters with 53 cubs.
With further significant funding from the Chinese state, the Panda conservation facility is now one of the worlds foremost centres of excellence when it comes to Panda conservation.
Set amongst a lush forest, the ideal environment for the giant Panda, the conservation facility is divided into six areas dedicated to raising
and breeding, scientific research, food prep and an animal hospital area, staff quarters, an the "bamboo base" area and tourist accommodation area. | |
