Val D´isere is one of the most beautiful skiing locations in the world. So we believe it is one of the best places you can do a Gap Year ski instructor course.
Why do your ski instructor course in Val D´isere?
There are plenty of ski instructor courses on offer, hundreds of companies that run ski instructor development programs as well, so it’s quite hard to choose the best resort to do your training.
For this reason it was very important that we picked the correct training partners and the best resort locations to feature our ski instructor or snow board instructor programs.
After an extensive four-year research project, for a European ski instructor courses we settled on Val D´isere. Why?
Val D´isere wins hands down over all of the European ski instructor locations. It ticks all the boxes which will cover in other posts, but the first thing you will probably notice is that it has a massive ski area that you simply will not get bored off. When the couple this with our contacts offering advanced ski instructor course training, and our ability to be up to place you in resort rather than in sister in resorts like La Daille, with the associated nightlife and apres ski benefits you can have such good fun and get your qualifications at the same time. We won’t go into how good the training is here, but you can read more about that here.
Espace Killy is regarded as one of the most beautiful ski areas in the world.
It is simply stunning, Val D´isere is nestled in a deep valley, cut out by the isere River. To get to the ski areas you take the Olympic cable car up the face, this was the downhill run for the Winter Olympics, a suitably challenging black run to finish any day on, and boy is it steep.
Because the ascent is so steep, you reach the top and as the cable car comes over you are rewarded with a superb view of the Espace Killy ski area. This is one of Europe’s largest interconnected ski run areas unifying Val D´isere, Tignes and Val Thorens. From up there you have views of Mont blanc, the glaciers and 360° views of snowcapped peaks.
Val D´isere also has some of the best off piste, and most accessible off piste skiing in the world.
Being a French resort the ski runs are classified into four groups, green, blue, red and black but be warned not all country grading systems are the same.
The French system is one of the most advanced in the world, meaning the skiing can offer you more of a challenge than in many other countries like Canada for instance.
As you go onto qualify a ski instructor, you will notice that people qualifying ski instructors in France will earn significantly more than a Canadian or Austrian counterparts. Established level 4 Basi ski instructors can earn upwards of £50,000 a season! Of courseone of the reasons for this is that Val D´isere attracts some of the richest skiers in the world, they tend to tip big and you would be earning about €55 per hour on the slopes. This is about double what you can expect an elsewhere. So it pays, literally, to do your training in Val D´isere as this is one of the most desirable resorts to work in once you qualify.
While ski instructor courses can be quite expensive, we do have a work option as well where we will place you in a position so you can work a ski season as you train, this option is also available for those not completing the ski instructor course.
