If you are visiting  Namibia, you should head to Etosha National Park. Etosha was first established in 1907, back in the German Colonial days when they ruled much of South West Africa. At the time, the park’s original 100,000 km² (38,500 mile²) gave it the accolade of being the biggest game reserve in the world. Times have changed now, the park is now slightly less than a quarter of its original area, however it is still and epic  area in which wildlife is protected.

On our Africa Overland Truck Trips you will visit Etosha, and you can go for an optional night drive or morning game drive – this is the best time to see the wildlife. For many on these trips Etosha is the first chance to really see lots of wildlife, being the first in a large list of national parks crammed into a jam packed itinerary.

Etosha is dominated by a huge salt pan, which is mostly very dry, with the exception of a few months in Summer when the rains come and so do the flamingos.

Game viewing is centered around the waterholes which tends to make viewing the wildlife a little more predictable as the animals never stray too far from having a place to drink.
