SCUBA Diving in Thailand is an incredible experience. When you go SCUBA diving in Thailand, on that perfect morning, the sun starting to warm up nicely the gulf of Thailand shimmering flat like a mirror, you will truly find happiness. You run though your buddy checks, BCD, weights, regulators, Air, final ok. You are now ready to go diving (Bangkok women really are fellas is a good acronym for you when diving in Thailand).
The butterflies in your stomach start to flutter, excitement takes hold in anticipation of what you may encounter in the depths below the dive boat. Your diving adventure starts as you take a big leap forward and plunge into the Gulf of Thailand. The air in your BCD pops you to the surface, and you signal to your buddy that you are ready to start your SCUBA diving adventure.
You press the air dump button and your weights pull you under. Looking up you see the bubbles rise to the surface as you make a controlled descent, equalizing your ears on the way down.
When SCUBA diving in Thailand you can expect to see many different and wonderful fish species. Surgeon fish, Scissortail sergeant major, Anemonefish, Damsels, Clown fish, Angel fish, Groupers, Sharks, Whale sharks and Trigger fish to mention a few.
As you float down your dive computer logs your diving progress. Down to 18 meters, you notice change in temperature, as you hit the thermocline, scanning off into the distance you can survey the whole dive site. Granite boulders rise majestically up off the sea bed. About 20 metres away you see the silhouette of a 2 metre grey reef shark on early morning patrol. There is a serine calm that accompanies diving in Thailand. It may be the should of your breathing amplified under water, or the motion of the fish swimming around you and checking you out. The beautiful colors or the feeling of weightlessness. You sit on the sea bed for a moment, watching the black spiney sea urchins scuttle past you, on their way to some unknown destination. This is bliss. You check your air pressure, 160 bar, plenty of gas left. You swim in the direction of another granite monolife , glancing upwards you can see a shoal of barracuda, forming a ring of shimmering, undulating flashes of light. On your way back up, you circle around the coral entrenched boulders, noting lion fish and hundreds of soft coral dwelling fishies. After 40 minutes of diving in Thailand, you break the surface after a controlled ascent. You are beaming with excitement, and wishing you could repeat the experience straight way. All in good time, for you will, as anyone who has been diving in Thailand will tell you, once you have been diving in Thailand, you will go back again and again.
