Koh Tao is a small island in the gulf of Thailand, only 21 sq KM in total, but jam packed with Adventure, beaches and excitable Xtreme Gappers making the best of their Thailand Gap Year.
Koh Tao for us is a special place, because on that dreamy little island it is where it all began (for Xtreme Gap that is, not the creation of the universe, man and all that - although it does come as close to paradise as you can get...)
Koh Tao was pretty much undiscovered until the 1980s, a few fishermen's families settled on the island to grow coconuts - as you do, but with our reliable boats and zero infrastructure - it was a challenge to reach for most.
The island thrives these days, not on coconuts, but backpackers and increasingly holiday makers compete with wheel luggage - taking advantage of the great diving scene (Koh Tao is full of dive schools and is in fact the cheapest place in the world to learn to dive).
Koh Tao offers plenty more excitement for the serious gap year travellers, out of the water too. With exciting Gap Year Sports like Muay Thai Training in Thailand, Freediving, rock climbing there is plenty to do, on the days when you do not want to lazy around on the beautiful beaches or go diving.
