Sitting within a valley, surrounded by desert is the capital of Peru, Lima. Wander around the ancient city taking in its rich history & colourful street art, tasting delicious Peruvian cuisine and exploring the city’s highlights and coastal viewpoints.
In the early afternoon, catch a short 1-hour flight to Cusco City and check in to our hotel. Set high in the Peruvian Andes, Cusco is a city rich with a mix of Incan and Spanish influences. Take in the heritage on a city orientation of the former capital of the Incan empire and the gateway to Machu Picchu. We spend the evening hitting up Cusco’s lively nightlife and dancing the night away at a Salsa Bar.
After breakfast, we take a walking tour around ancient Cusco City, learning about its important history and culture. Explore the local food, fruit and craft markets. Head over to the ancient Inca and Spanish site and marvel over the stones of the Incan wall complex, of Sacsayhuamán. End our day of exploration at a coffee bar overlooking Cusco City Square watching the world go by.
Rise and shine! Today we have an early start as we head off to the impressive Lake Humantay, also known as Laguna Humatay by the locals. Located over 4000 metres up in the Andes, it’s regarded as a sacred and spiritual area to the Incas. Spend the full day trekking taking in the majestic scenery, snow-capped mountains, lush green landscapes and the stunning turquoise coloured lake. Take a dip in the glacier lake, if you’re brave enough! Truly an unforgettable experience.
We set off for the picturesque small town of Ollantaytambo stopping off along the way to take in the sites of Maras Salt Mines and Moray Ancient site. Learn about the 500-year-old ancient process of salt mining, and marvel at the mines dug into the mountainside. Take in the series of circular Andean paths at the outstanding archaeological Moray Ancient site. Before we arrive in Ollantaytambo, we stop off to recharge at a small local brewery where you can choose to sample some home-brewed beers. We arrive in Ollantaytambo, a small town in the northern end of the Sacred Valley, check in to our hotel and spend the evening relaxing before our big hike ahead!
Today we leave Ollantaytambo Lodge behind, to board the Inca Trail Train to Km 104, 12 kilometres before Machu Picchu. Gaze out the window and take in the views of the Urubamba river, snowy mountains and small villages before we disembark at Km 104 to start the famous one day Inca Trail hike. Take in the stunning views and ancient sites along the way to the grand entrance to the jaw-dropping Machu Picchu city, Sun Gate. Don’t worry we have your Inca Trail permit sorted!
Hop on a bus up the winding road to the entrance of the Incan citadel Machu Picchu, the most famous archaeological site in South America. We spend the day taking a leisurely guided walk around the incredible ancient ruins, surrounded by lush vegetation high in the Andes Mountains. This world heritage site is definitely Insta-worthy! After our day of exploring, we travel back to Cusco City to check back into our hotel.
It’s time to get your adrenaline pumping as we head off to go white water rafting on grade 2 & 3 rapids on the Urubamba River! After a fun-filled day, we’ll get ready to head out this evening for a final dinner & drinks in Cusco City.
