It depends how long you are travelling for or if you are moving onto another country after but you will not need to pack much for South East Asia. The climate will stay the same all year round which will be in the mid 30´s so light clothing will be best. It will also help if you use a backpack rather than a suitcase as it will be more comfortable for you to travel around with. But if you do only have a suitcase, do not spend your money on an expensive backpack, a suitcase or sports bag will do.

Cambodia Backpacker Experience Photos
On day one of the Cambodia Backpacker Experience we will either pick you up from the airport or meet you at our hostel and introduce you to the crew. You’ll have the day to chill & get settled in or explore the city before we head out in the evening for a welcome meal and a few drinks on the aptly named Pub Street to get to know each other.
Learn to cook some traditional Cambodian dishes with our Khmer master chef and feast on all of your tasty creations. In the evening we take a tuk tuk up to the beautiful rice terraces just outside Siem Reap for a nice sunset BBQ.
We’ll get up early and take a tuk tuk ride to the ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage site and some of the oldest and largest religious monuments in the world. We watch the sun rise over the main temple building then explore a few of the more important and spectacular sites. In the afternoon we jump on a private mini bus to Phnom Penh.
Whilst in Phnom Penh, tradition dictates that we take a tour to the historical and eye opening sites of the Khmer Killing Fields and S21. Two historical land marks which shine some light on Cambodia’s chilling and not too distant history.
Today we head to Kampot a cool little town on the river a couple of hours south of Phnom Penh. After we get checked in we head down river to a great spot with rope swings, pontunes and tubes where we can spend the afternoon chilling or playing on the river.
Check out Rural Cambodia by boat and take it these stunning views of the countryside from the water. Kampot is another destination with amazing natural surroundings, very different from the city or beaches you will see next.
Time to hit up the beach as we head further south to the popular backpacker town of Sihanoukville. Famous for beaches and parties it would be rude not to head out in the evening to join the rest of the backpackers in the areas for a bit of a beach party.
Today we jump on a boat for the day and search for the best snorkelling spots on the south coast and neighbouring islands.
Arguably one of the most beautiful spots of the whole trip, we spend two days on the gorgeous Koh Rong Samloem staying at our favourite backpacker resort in its own private bay.
Spend the whole day as you wish, you can relax on the beach, play on the inflatables, chill on the sea hammocks and swings hammocks or take out a kayak and explore.
We head back to Phnom Penh for the final night of the trip. Use the afternoon to explore or recharge because in the evening, we will take you out for a farewell dinner and party to celebrate the end to an awesome trip.
Today is sadly check out day but whether you’re going home, moving on or joining another TruTour for the next leg of your journey – we’ll make sure you’re in the right place at the right time for the fun to roll on!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes of course you can. We will put you in touch with other group members shortly before your tour. You can also join our Facebook page to interact with your group and others, see pictures etc.
First of all its your responsibility to get the correct visa, but as it stands at the moment (2016) for UK and NL travellers, you can get a Cambodian visa either online or at the border really easily. If you get one in Khao San Road in Bangkok, where they offer to arrange a visa for you, you risk giving your passport to a stranger. You CAN go to the Cambodian embassy in Bangkok, but would be a waste of time and money. Online or at the border is easiest .
