The Hoover Dam

What’s so special about seeing a massive dam? Remarkably quite a lot actually, the Hoover Dam represents a massive technological achievement and despite being nearly 80 years old, there was so much concrete used in the construction they estimate not all of it has set yet!

During the Great Depression, Americans built the Hoover Dam, overcoming technical challenges to erect one of the greatest engineering works in history.

It certainly wasn’t easy, and because of the great depression there was a massive influx of willing workers up to 20,000 of them hoping to gain employment hoping to build the dam.

It was highly dangerous work, many died during the construction process   112 people in fact.

Today the dam has proved the test of time, and also generates significant amounts of energy being one of the world’s largest hydroelectric sites.
