Rongai Route Day 2 Caves and Kibo in View

You will be up early for breakfast and coffee, pack up your kit because it is time to attempt the next days Kilimanjaro climb.  The morning walk is a measured ascent up to Second Cave at 11300ft/3450m.

This is an ascent of about 800 metres, and as you reach the second Cave, you will start to see your goal in site, with  superb views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim.

The majority of this day is set in a moorland setting, wild grasses and unique flora will be in full view, giving a sense of wide open spaces leading ever upwards to Kibo peak.

The Rongai route, although tougher and longer than the Marangu Route is known for its epic views, and is one of the main reasons people opt to take this route.

This is also considered a more adventurous route because you are not in mountain huts, but camping most of the way. Pushing on to reach Third Cave taking 3 to 4 hours at 12800ft/3800m for overnight at 3rd Cave Camp.
