The following day on the Marangu Route Kilimanjaro climb starts at Mandara hut (2700m)  and ends at Horombo hut (3720m)

After breakfast and a hot coffee, we exit the rainforests and cross into a new zone. When climbing Kilimanjaro, you see lots of different landscapes, from forests to moorland, Glaciers and lunar landscapes.

Today the trek from Mandara hut to Horombo cuts through a stunning through the alpine meadow. As the altitude begins to change, be sure to slowdown your pace while enjoying the flora unique to Kilimanjaro. The view of the 2 peaks comes into sight: Mawenzi and Kibo distracting you from your now tired leg muscles, and reminding you of your goal, that is approaching with every step up the mountain.

Arriving in at the Horombo Hut in the late after noon, 12km further up from the Mandara huts, you might be rewarded with stunning views. The camp tends to sit above the cloud line and seems almost like you are perched on a cliff edge as you look out over Africa. Have a good meal and regain some calories and sleep well tonight, because the next section starts to become challenging.
