The 3 week Itinerary

First Week

Day 1, Arrival Day

Arriving on Sunday or start your adventure in the all some ancient capital of North Vietnam Hanoi. This is it! The beginning of your 3-week adventure that is full of excitement, culture, history, a road trip and great times with new friends. With an airport pick up included you settle into your accommodation in Hanoi, you´ll get a chance to meet up with your fellow backpackers and find out about everyone you´ll be spending the next few weeks with.

Most people on our Vietnam Experience are in the same boat, i.e. they are travelling solo, so there is no need to be nervous. You´ll be far too busy to worry about that!

Day 2 Hanoi old quarter

Xtreme Gap Vietnam experienceTo new visitors, Hanoi is a fantastic city bustling with crazy drivers, overloaded bicycles, colourful markets and street food stalls selling local dishes, some of which aren´t always identifiable (and yes, they are partial to chomping on a bit of Fido!).

Luckily you have a guide to help you through that initial culture shock, allowing you to absorb it with a bit of help. You´ll visit the 12th century Temple of Literature, see a local music performance and have lunch in the Old Quarter when your guide will take the opportunity to tell you all about what the next four weeks has in store. In the evening, you´ll have dinner and see a performance at the world famous water puppet theatre.

By the end of today, the sensory overload will either have you sleeping like a log or wide awake with wonder! Check out this gallery on our blog for more photos!

Day 3

Halong BayToday we are heading to Halong City gateway to the world heritage site of Halong Bay.

Halong Bay, which means ´Bay of the Descending Dragon´, is approximately 170km north of Hanoi and is famous for its surreal and somewhat eerie landscape of over 3000 limestone monoliths that rise imposingly from the ocean.

Just make sure that you get those all important emails addresses from your trip mates so that you can swap photos and keep each other up-to-date with any more adventures you do. Believe us, this trip will leave you wanting more. There is no vaccination for the travel bug!!

Day 4 and 5

Vietnam is full of epic landscapes, Giao Xuan is a stunning little village that will not disappoint. Today we’ll learn everything there is to know about Vietnamese culture. You will be learning some basic trying your hand Vietnamese cooking, and we will even take you to a local market where you can haggle for some ingredients for a major feast later that day.

Day 6 Quintessential Vietnam paddy fields caves and temples

Vietnam gap yearToday involves a relaxing boat trip around Tam Coc and Dinh Cac Pier, which has a stunning landscape of towering karst islets and vast expanses of paddy fields. You´ll also float through three impressive natural caves, which is what the name Tam Coc means, ´three caves´. This whole area epitomizes rural Vietnam, and you´ll want to make sure your camera is charged.

After lunch, you can cycle to the village and onto Thai Vi Temple and Bich Dong Pagoda, which dates back to 1428 and is located on Ngu Nhac Mountain.

Day 7 and 8 (Sat & Sun)

Its weekend! You have a couple of days ´off´ at this point in the trip – that is you are free to explore at your own pace and see what you and your adventuring friends can find. Meet up in the evenings and swap stories and photos with the whole group, while soaking up the atmosphere and thinking about everything you’ve seen and done so far. Typically the groups head out to Cuc Phuong National Park, the picturesque waterfall, and temples of the 11th c former capital, Hoa Lu. Our guides can offer you advise on what’s best to see in the area.

Second Week:

Day 9 (Mon) Sapa

A local village, hill tribes and beautiful scenery are on the agenda today. Cat Cat Village is about 1km from Sapa, located at the bottom of the Muong Hoa Valley and as you walk there you´ll see the breathtaking mountains, over 3000m high, and the green rice terraces that drop almost 1000m below. You´ll also pass the sparkling Cat Cat waterfall. The village itself is home to the H´Mong tribe, who retain many of the old customs and traditions, some of which you can see, such as hand weaving and dying of materials to make textiles. Have you still got room for souvenirs?!

Locals and villages

We hope you´re feeling well rested for today as there is a 10km trek through the hills, past the streams and into the valley of Muong Hoa to visit Ta Van village, where you’ll stay overnight with a local family. This gives you the chance to experience firsthand the lifestyle and culture of the people living in this area. After the long trek, the pool is bound to look appealing to soothe those aching muscles! You also have the chance to pitch in and help to cook dinner (you might even get to use some of the skills you learnt in your cookery class) before settling down for a peaceful night with your local hosts.

Day 10 (Tue) trekking
Bring your trekking boots because we are going on an epic journey. 10 hours of trekking through hills, paddy fields and classic Asian scenery until we hit Ta Van village. Take a dip in the pool there because you have deserved it.

Day 11 (Wed) Waterfalls and landscapes and trekking

You´ll have been glad for a peaceful night as today is an amazing seven hour round trip trekking to a waterfall and passing through some stunning landscapes along the way something that you´ll probably be getting used to now, given how beautiful the country is. Anyway, you´re young and fit so no slacking, you can handle it!

Day 12 (Thu) Sapa

Back to Sapa and a well earned rest. Kick back and sip a 666 Vietnamese beer. Super cheap and very tasty!

Sapa town

Sapa  is perfect for a well-earned rest. You´re more than halfway through your adventure so you can sit back, chill out and reflect on all the places you’ve been, things you see and people you´ve met so far. We reckon by this point you´ll realize this is one of the best things you’ve ever done!

If you are up for it check out the beautiful orchid gardens on the Ham Rong Mountain. Located in Sapa town, you don´t have far to travel to admire the panoramic views, gardens and unusual rock formations. It is well worth the effort of walking to the top as once you get there, and along the way, you´ll be rewarded with some great photo opportunities.

Day 13 (Fri) Market

Today you’ll visit the beautiful local market and beautiful old Sapa church in the morning.  You’ll have free time for the rest of the day until your bus back to Hanoi.

 

Day 14 and 15 (Sat & Sun) Hanoi craziness free time

Yes weekend again :). You’ve had quite a number of days admiring the beautiful Vietnam countryside and now it´s back to crazy Hanoi. You have a couple of days to explore more of the city, after which time you can decide whether you love it or hate it, it´s a bit like Marmite! Your guide will be able to give you the lowdown on the best places to visit and where to eat and drink.

You then have two days to explore the incredible city of Hanoi – our guides can give you some great suggestions of places to go, although often the group will have their own ideas there is only things you can see and do it will be hard to cram it all in. Stock up on snacks and charge your smartphone batteries because the following night you will be doing a very long bus trip which takes us to Hoi an.

Third Week 3: Days 16 – 21

Day 16 Hoi An is awesome

You will arrival to Hoi An in the afternoon and have time to visit Hoi An Old Quarter.  It has a distinctly French colonial flare, and it’s also an awesome place to get any type of clothing tailor-made for you!

You could spend time exploring the town and its many alleyways of cute shops, cafes and extensive food market or maybe hire a scooter and head out to the gorgeous local beaches.

Day 17 Ancient Ruins

You will visit the ancient ruins of the Cham dynasty in My Son. Ancient ruined temples two massive towers a really special place.

We will join the bus to transfer to Nha Trang tonight.

Day 18 & 19 Beach time

Na Trang has fantastic beaches and great nightlife. Nha Trang’s golden beaches are yours for the taking, alternatively, take a boat trip to nearby islands or sample sumptuous seafood.

Day 20 Saigon/ Ho Chi Minh

It’s been a huge epic journey but finally, we’ve made it to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Sai Gon)! Arguably one of the most beautiful cities in Vietnam, it has a distinctively different feel to Hanoi.

Day 21 (Sat) Saying goodbyes

On day 24 you will stay in Sai Gon where it will be time to say goodbye to your travel buddies. Lifelong friendships will have been formed, incredible time is had by all, in a truly stunning country. At the end of an amazing trip before continuing with your onward travels

Meals

Only breakfast is included throughout the programme. But you can get a nice (and cheap) meal on every corner of every street. Meals are about 1 to 3 GBP per meal.

Vietnamese meals consist of rice or noodles accompanied by fish or meat and a vegetable dish or soup. But in many places, you can also get Western food like pizza!

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

The winter months are December, January and February. It can be quite cold as you also go up to the north is Sapa, which is in the mountains. In January, there is no start date but in December there is. Be aware that you can not sunbathe.
Vietnam is a very safe country to travel in. You will also have a co-ordinator with you at all times.

No! You can get away with taking about 100 per week, and that will go a long way! A beer on the street in Hanoi is about 7p.

ACCOMMODATION AT BOOT CAMP

The training can take it out of you, so to relax after a hard session you stay in comfortable accommodation. There are two options for accommodation on the Bali Fitness Bootcamp. Both options are close the beach and to everything else as well, so you have plenty of opportunities to go explore. Taxis are cheap in Bali, and there are plenty of areas of interest you to visit including temples, resorts, beaches and areas of cultural interest. Day trips can be booked through our Bali team.

Boutique Shared Villa Accommodation

With a stunning pool and a shared room in our stunning Fitness Villa you are in the midst of the action. Its a fun set up with roof top jacuzzi overlooking the ocean and a pool and communal living area on the ground floor. The villa is 150 metersthe the most stunning bay in Bali.  The perfect set up to relax, meet other bootcampers and feel right at home. This is the social hub of the bootcamp but also large and private enough to have important relax and down time.

The sleeping arrangements are based on airconditioned, shared ensuite mini dorms with max. 2 – 4 persons (mixed gender).  Airconditioning operates from 7 pm to 7 am ensuring you get a comfortable nights sleep.

Deluxe Resort Accommodation

If you do not wish to share and would like even more luxury, your fitness training will be complemented perfectly by a stay in our beautiful deluxe hotel option. Located right next to the best  beach in Bali, you can relax in between training sessions on the white sands of Jimbaran, or at the stunning pool of the hotel. The luxury deluxe option is located 5 minute walk to the training camp and is the epitome of luxury. This exclusive resort is brand new in 2016 and caters to those with higher budgets.

Complete with stunning pool and roof top lounge with unrivaled views of Jimberan bay it is a lovely place to stay if you can afford the extra expense.

The Surrounding Area

Our stunning bootcamp is set in an exclusive quieter area of Bali called Jimberan. The perfect beach with views stunning rollers, its the perfect location for a mental and physical reset. You can also venture down to the traditional markets, enjoy fine dining with a selection of lovely restaurants or sunbathe on a white sandy beach. The beach and the hotel are separated by road, and along the road, there are local Seafood Cafés.

The location is rewarded by some of the best sunsets in Bali, with temples and plenty of points of interest nearby.

 

 ACCOMMODATION ON 10 DAY EPIC

Your 9 nights accommodation is fully included for this part of your trip and is a combination of some awesome hostels and surf hotels. The rooms are twins or doubles and you will share with the same sex unless you specify.To make it just that much better, all the spots you stay in have a pool. Which is always great to chill and relax by after a fun day of exploring.

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

The camp is located in Jimbaran right by the beach. This is located on a massive Bay with a white sandy beach, 15 minutes from the airport. It’s away from the typically touristy areas, and a little bit quieter which is more conducive to fitness training and relaxation. Yet at the same time, it is easily accessible to some of the hotspots and more lively areas. 
You have nothing to worry about, our expert Group Leaders will help you book everything you need in order to get to where you’re heading, whether that be on to some more islands or back to the airport to catch a flight.
If you arrive a day early, accommodation is not included. Check in is only on Sunday. Airport pick up is included, all day at anytime but only on Sunday. If you arrive early you have to arrange your own transfer to the accommodation at the training camp.

At bootcamp, this depends on your own spending choices, but as 2 meals (breakfast and lunch) are covered per day, will not need much while you are training. Meals are not included on Sundays.

For your epic 10 day trip, We would recommend between £120 and £180 for the 10 days. Bali is very good value for money, so it really depends on how much you want to spend.

Yes! 90% of our clients who join the boot camp and our group trips are solo travellers. In fact far from this being a problem, we would encourage people to do so. It’s a very social environment and you will make friends very quickly.

High season is the dry season. Between April and September Bali is typically busier than usual. While temperatures are pretty constant all year round, it’s rainfall that can make the difference between the months.

The rainy season, which usually falls between December and Jan you can expect downpours happening mainly at night. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be constantly raining all the time, you can have some heavy rains, and then it is sunny again. It’s also cooler to train during rainy season. Can be more humid, however the training facility is airconditioned and the rooms are also airconditioned at night time. The boot camp runs all year, come rain or shine anyway.

You will need to fly into Bali Denpasar International Airport. After booking, you are asked to provide your flight details and we will meet you in arrivals outside of the airport. We will then transfer you to your accommodation by taxi. 
Our local rep can help you book a taxi, it is a short 45min ride from Jimbaran to Canggu.

Fast & Easy Results – Our Boot Camp is effective at identifying ways of reaching health and fitness goals in a faster way. Left to your own devices you might struggle to get there at all and classes or sessions which repeat one style of exercise might not deliver the right results on time either. This gives you the time and effort to focus on your fitness goals.

Fantastic facilities: It’s not all hard work! In your free time, you’ll relax beside the pool in our  resort, treat your tired muscles to massages and enjoy the luxury of someone else doing the cooking for a change. Over the weekend, you’ll have free time to explore the beaches and rice fields of beautiful Bali. Very different from training in your normal gym in the home.

Dynamic workout -Many people lose focus and motivation because they get bored. The whole point of Boot Camp is that it is as diverse as it is intense. If you add in the fact that you will be progressing and changing along the way, then you have an interesting exercise mix that should keep you engaged enough to realise your exercise goals.

Like-minded training buddies -Some people take up activities for the social scene, others because they are firmly fixed on a goal. A real positive about Boot Camp is that because of what it stands for, you are going to meet other people similar to yourself who want to seriously improve their lives. However, this shared goal means that there is a sense of camaraderie and support which is not always found in other exercise sessions. It’s a great way to bond with people and make new friends from all over the world. This is why we encourage you to come alone. You will leave with friends!

Weekly  Personalised Training Sessions 1 time a week – These sessions an opportunity to monitor your progress, and to guide your fitness regime so that you arrive at your desired goals. During these sessions, you can develop the ideal schedule, diet and supplement plan working closely with a train in a small group of training buddies. (Max 2-1 student trainer ratio). However, at times, if you want to make big changes, such as to lose weight and tone up quickly and effectively or gain muscle, you may need to up the ante and focus in on your goal. Boot Camp is an ideal way to help you reach your target by honing in on what you want and offering intense exercise sessions to make sure you get there.

Creates healthy expectations – You are there to train! Classes back home,  which you can easily dip in and out of might offer a relaxed way of keeping in shape, but they don’t necessarily generate a sense of personal responsibility. A fitness holiday where you have committed your time and money  will motivate you into putting in the effort and determination needed! It can really inspire you to put healthy pressure on yourself. This, in turn, means that you’re more involved and more motivated to not let down your trainer, the others around you and most importantly, yourself.

With our constantly varied programming, you will rarely do the same workout. You will never have to programme your workouts or spend hours in the gym. Instead, each day a workout will be provided for you that is scalable to suit your fitness level.

Training consists of cross fit classes, body 360 (hi cardio excellent for weight loss), yoga (5 sessions a week!), Barbell work outs and beach work outs and beach runs.

 

Accommodation Options

At the Xtreme Gap Fitness Bootcamp relaxation is just as important as the training.

bali-fit02The training can take it out of you, so to relax after a hard session you stay in comfortable accommodation with a stunning pool, and your own deluxe room or shared room in our stunning Fitness Villa with  pool and roof top jacuzzi over looking the ocean. Both super close to a stunning beach. Here you have the perfect blend of healthy fitness workouts and complete relaxation at the end of the day.

Shared Villa

Right by the ocean and on campus is our beautiful massive villa! Boasting pool and Jacuzzi, chill out areas with views of the ocean and a warm friendly welcome this will be your home during your stay.

The perfect set up to relax, meet other bootcampers and feel right at home. This is the social hub of the bootcamp but also large and private enough to have important relax and down time.

The sleeping arrangements are based on airconditioned, shared ensuite mini dorms with max. 2 – 4 persons (mixed gender).  Airconditioning operates from 7 pm to 7 am ensuring you get a comfortable nights sleep. During the day the villa benefits from an ocean breeze and plunge pools to cool you off after training. This is a communal set up so can be quite social and great to meet people.

If the idea of sharing is not your thing consider it is just for sleeping and you will be tired in the evening for sure! Beds are equipped with the highest quality luxury mattresses and there is plenty of space in the villa to relax. We are located right by the beach as well.

We have large screen TVs, movie projector and a huge library of DVDs for chilling in the evening.

The Luxury Deluxe Option

If you do not wish to share and would like even more luxury, your fitness training will be complemented perfectly by a stay in our beautiful deluxe hotel option. Located right next to the best beach in Bali, you can relax in between training sessions on the white sands of Jimbaran, or at the stunning pool of the hotel. The luxury deluxe option is located 5-minute walk to the training camp and is the epitome of luxury. This exclusive resort is brand new in 2016 and caters to those with higher budgets.

Complete with stunning pool and roof top lounge with unrivaled views of Jimberan bay it is a lovely place to stay if you can afford the extra expense.

The Surrounding Area

Our stunning bootcamp is set in an exclusive quieter area of Bali called Jimberan. The perfect beach with views stunning rollers, its the perfect location for a mental and physical reset. You can also venture down to the traditional markets, enjoy fine dining with a selection of lovely restaurants or sunbathe on a white sandy beach. The beach and the hotel are separated by a road, and along the road, there are local Seafood Cafés.

The location is rewarded by some of the best sunsets in Bali, with temples and plenty of points of interest nearby.

If salt water is not your thing we have two beautiful swimming pools in the resort. But it’s close to everything else as well, so you have plenty of opportunities to go explore. Taxis are cheap in Bali, and there are plenty of areas of interest you to visit including temples, resorts, beaches and areas of cultural interest. Day trips can be booked through our Bali team.

Location

It’s a really nice location because it’s not too touristy. The village itself used to be a fishing village and is located in a huge white sandy bay. Every morning you can still take a stroll down to the beach and see the fishermen returning with their fresh catch. It’s now a great location to be based for fitness activities. With the establishment of our Boot Camp, plus the huge array of water sports available to you ( surfing, stand up paddle) it’s quite a good place to be to combine relaxation and getting active.

In the evenings you will be rewarded with the most beautiful sunsets, plus there are plenty of beachside restaurants to sip on a cold fruit shake and watch traditional Balinese dancing shows and hundreds of fire lanterns drifting into the night sky.

This is not the location to be at if you’re expecting lots of nightlife, although this is available in Kuta just 20 minutes away, the priorities of people training in our Boot Camp is about fitness, weight loss and strength and conditioning training, morning start early and people are usually in bed before 10.

The bootcamp is located conveniently place between Bali’s tourist hotspots. When you are not training, it’s easy to get out and explore. You are only 20 Minutes to Kuta, 35 minutes to Nusa Dua, 35 minutes to Sanur, 35 minutes to Denpasar City.

Excursions

Every week we head out with the new arrivals to the jaw-dropping Uluwatu temple, perched on the southern cliff face of Bali, home to hundreds of cheeky monkeys!

Then after we drive to Padang Padang beach for a swim and to catch the sunset. A world famous surf break, beach access is through a cave revealing golden sands and impressive sunset views.

We provide the transport during the excursion (you sign up to them at the villa) but please note there is a very small local payment to access Uluwatu Temple and Padang Padang (about £2.50 per attraction).

Many people struggle to get motivated into taking their health and fitness seriously. Think about it, who has the time to hit the gym properly or go for a run in our busy lives? When you do get round to it, where is the motivation?

The great thing about the fitness Boot Camp is that you can take time out of your hectic schedule to do something that is really ideal for your well-being, and you know you will be supported every step of the way.

It is not just about the training sessions, it is about doing it in a group atmosphere, seeing improvements as the days go by with your new training buddies.

What can the Bali Fitness Boot Camp do for you?

Everyone is different, with different goals. Some people are really unfit others have a good base level of fitness, either way, you will benefit from spending some time training here and you will see remarkable improvements.

You will be impressed by what you can achieve

It is a really motivating environment. The majority of people at the camp travel there on their own which leads to a really social and supportive atmosphere because everyone has there  with the same goal.

When this is coupled with superb trainers, scheduled classes and all the equipment you could need, there really is nothing stopping you. You will be amazed by what you can achieve, because with group training sessions slacking off is less of an option, and the training is quite addictive once you get into it.

We have had clients who have gone from 1 week to 8 weeks, and the feedback is consistently excellent. With a varied and flexible training timetable, morning and evening you will not be bored.

The Training

With an impressive roster of trainers, we are continually improving our fitness routines incorporating the latest Crossfit methods and techniques. At the Xtreme Bali fitness Bootcamp, we use high-intensity cross fit training to develop strength fitness and flexibility.

With so many people coming and training the camp, naturally, the latest fitness techniques are incorporated and developed in the training programmes. With just one month spent training at the Xtreme Gap fitness Boot Camp, we can confidently state that you can develop so much further than six months with a personal trainer back home.

During the first couple of sessions, you will be enrolled on a lighter version of the training programme. This is to ensure you can get up to speed and benefit the most out of the workouts.

The Bali Fitness Bootcamp Training Schedule

The majority of the training program is focused on Cross fit. Cross fit uses functional movements to deliver explosive workout sessions. Due to the intensity of these sessions, it can be quite strenuous on your body so we include a lot of rest time and more low-intensity activities to help your body recover and rebuild in between sessions.

Typically the timetable consists of two group Cross fit training sessions lasting one hour each per day plus a full six hours of open gym access to you to work on your own training plan as devised by your personal trainer.

On Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays session start early morning before the tropical heat and humidity builds up at 6 AM. If you have the endurance to push through you can have the option of doing a double training session on these days completing another one at 7 AM. Tuesdays and Thursdays training starts at 7AM.

There is a further cross fit session at 5 PM if you miss the morning session or want to split your training between mornings and afternoons.

Body Fit
Body Fit is every Tuesday and Thursday at 9am. This class consists of light weight and bodyweight movements programed to get your heart rate up and sustained throughout a longer working periods. Great for fat loss, toning, firming, and overall endurance.

Barbell Club
This class is all about strength gains, mobility, and coordination. Olympic weightlifting is one of the most athletic sports around demanding many things from your body. If you want to work on your strength capacity, flexibility, and coordination, this class is for you.

PT Sessions (Included on Standard Options)

Your personalized training sessions happen 1 time per week during the open gym access. This is your opportunity to discuss with your dedicated trainer your own particular goals, set your workouts and come up with a structured plan for you to work on. One personalized training session per week is sufficient for most clients, however, if you want to book extra this is also possible at £40per session. The PT sessions are delivered with a max. 2-1 student to trainer ratio although usually these are 1-1.

Surf Lesson

We include one surf lesson per stay. As you may know, Bali is the quintessential surf location, and with great views of airport right (one of the top surf spots in the world) live and direct from our roof terrace, you will be tempted to hit the surf!

We will pick you up with the rest of the group and take you to a Surf lesson at a different location. You get to see more of Bali and experience surfing at the same time!

5 Yoga sessions per week are also included in the programme (3 on the lean). As well as a multitude of sports you can join (not obligatory) like beach volleyball, Stand Up Paddle, basketball and a football pitch at our own sports facilities.

The Training Facilities

The training facilities are arguably some of the best in Bali. A substantial training facility that can accommodate up to 80 clients at one time. Not only do we have a fully functioning CrossFit area, plus resistance weights and an impressive stock of weights and machines. We also have recreational activities like volleyball, basketball and the soccer field as well.

Occasionally we hold conferences on health and fitness with guest speakers in the lecturing facilities there, although this is usually a special one-off event and not included in a typical package per se.

 

Nutrition Programme

Training hard and efficiently is only one factor that goes into delivering great results. What you put into your body is arguably even more important. One of the great things about the Bali fitness bootcamp, is we include a unique nutrition programme to really complement your fitness training goals. Our international team of French, New Zealand and Indonesian nutritionists have created a delicious healthy eating menu giving your clean healthy food for your Lunch options.

Note: 2 meals per day (excluding Sunday your well-deserved day off) are included. You will receive a buffet breakfast in the morning consisting of tasty  energy supplying oats, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, tea and coffee. If you have not booked the “lean option” you also get a  protein shake.

You then have the choice of taking lunch at the Villa (included) with multiple options from a healthy eating menu.

Our meal plan is designed with different fitness goals in mind. If you are looking to bulk up and gain muscle mass you may need to purchase additional meals or protein, to reach your desired calorific intake.

Why do we not include all meals? 

It makes it more social. Jimbaran is a spectacular location with many cheap and stunning restaurants in the local area. Many set up right on the beach. With the option of having dinner outside of the villa, you can enjoy the social scene with your fellow bootcampers, by going out to dinner. Taking all meals in the villa you would genuinely miss out.

If you would prefer to take both lunch and dinner in the villa, or don’t fancy venturing out you can purchase an additional meal healthy meal from reception each day. The cost for this is about £5 per meal.

Lunch is served from 12.30 (and dinner if you like to order the extra meal as well around 6 PM). You can take this on our spectacular roof terrace. Meaning you can get back from training, shower and enjoy a beautiful Balinese sunset before sitting down to dinner with your fellow bootcampers, in the villa or out locally. Fun, super social and easy!

Nutrition Consultation

Please Note: Personalised nutrition consultation is not included in this bootcamp, but we can connect you with our nutritionist online at our Thailand Fitness Bootcamp if you like.  After booking you have access to an online learning resource that will teach about the benefits of nutrition, eating clean and how to compliment your training with nutrition.

Here are some foundational facts about our meal plan.

  • Everything we use in our products are natural wholesome ingredients – we don’t ever use preservatives, artificial products, or MSG
  • We season using organic palm sugar and natural Bali sea salt
  • We source top-notch meat which are slow-cooked to get that juicy tenderness
  • Our vegetables come direct from Bedugul farms to our kitchen which means they travel through a short distance which equals max nutrients in your body.
  • Foods are immediately prepped & cooked on the day. When it arrives on your table, it’ll taste as if you cooked a healthy balanced meal yourself!
  • Please note you receive 6 lunch meals per week, if you skip one or choose to eat elsewhere the meals are not transferable to a later date.

HEARTY LAMB MOUSSAKA

Ground New Zealand lamb & chicken with garlic, tomatoes, grilled zucchini, eggplant with a layer of local sweet potato mash and a drop of béchamel sauce.

SALMON RATATOUILLE

Salmon steak topped with oyster mushrooms drizzled in orange sauce coupled with sweet potato ratatouille and pesto.

CHICKEN YUMMY

Ground chicken, bacon, leek, lentils, tomatoes, sweet corn, topped with a layer of mashed sweet potato. Flavours blended to perfection.

RENDANG ROOTS

Generations-old family recipe of traditional Indonesian beef Rendang with a healthy twist – slow cooked beef marinated in coconut milk & Balinese spices with crushed root vegetables on the side.

*Subject to change. Meals are frozen to seal in the nutrients at the time of cooking and need to be ordered and prepared prior to consumption. This can take 40 minutes so please plan when to take the meal accordingly. They can be delivered to your resort or taken at the training facility. You can order you meal via whats app.

Getting To Training Sessions

While you are there to train, no one is going to get you out of bed to attend classes. You need to make your own way to the fitness classes every day. Not a problem however as the training facilities are located right next door to the accommodation.

On Arrival

On arrival in Denpasar, we will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation. The journey is short approximately 15 Minutes to the International Airport. We recommend a Sunday arrival although we can be flexible.

On the first day of your training, our Xtreme Gap rep will give you a full introduction, introduce you to the trainers, show you around the camp and talk you through the training timetable.

Everything is made really easy for you, allowing you to just focus on having a great time, getting fit and having a really great holiday.

Early Arrival

If you arrive a day early, accommodation is not included. Check in is only on Sunday. Airport pick up is included, all day at anytime but only on Sunday. If you arrive early you have to arrange your own transfer to the accommodation.

How long should you go for?

We recommend you join us for four weeks at the Bali fitness bootcamp to get the most out of your time. Many people are constrained by how much time they have off work so most people go for two weeks. You can get a 30 day Visa for Bali fairly easily, if you wish to stay up to 8 weeks you will need to extend your Visa.

If you are looking to go really long-term and see drastic improvements, we recommend splitting your time between here and our Thailand fitness bootcamp, or focusing on the Thailand fitness bootcamp due to the ease of securing longer-term visas.

The main benefit you will take home is the knowledge gained of how to maintain and improve your fitness back home along with a solid foundation or fitness.

Of course, you also have had a fantastic holiday in Bali as well and it is not that often you can say you’ve come back from holiday feeling better than when you left!

Short-term guests will receive an amazing kick start to their health and fitness routine. Many who travel with us use this as a kick start to their travels as well, after all, if you are hitting the beaches in Bali, you want to look and feel good!

Visas

The maximum amount of time you can join is eight weeks. We are limited by the Visa limitations, you are able in most cases to get a 30 day Visa on arrival and extend this to 60. Please note this advice is subject to change so you should do your own research into visas as well.

Flights

Flights are not included, and please do not book your flights before booking with us as we do need to reserve your spot, and make sure there is availability. Submit your booking form and we will come back to you within 24 hours to confirm. Once we have issued you your confirmation invoice you are then good to book your flights to Denpasar, Bali.

Travelling alone

Most people who attend the camp, are independent travelers and arrive at the camp on their own. If you are concerned about traveling solo, don’t be. There is such a social atmosphere at the camp, and it is a really supportive environment that everyone gets to know each other very quickly. Serious physical exercise in a group can be quite a bonding experience we assure you! So really it does not take long for people to get to know one another. 90 percent of people joining the boot camp travel solo.

Frequently Asked Questions

The camp is located in Jimbaran right by the beach. This is located on a massive Bay with a white sandy beach, 15 minutes from the airport. It’s away from the typically touristy areas and a little bit quieter which is more conducive to fitness training and relaxation. Yet at the same time, it is easily accessible to some of the hotspots and more lively areas. 

You will need to fly into Bali Denpasar International Airport. After booking, you are asked to provide your flight details and we will meet you in arrivals outside of the airport. We will then transfer you to your accommodation by taxi. 

Early arrival is fine and we can recommend a few great options for accommodation. Please note that if you are not arriving on your start day, airport collection is not included, but a taxi from the airport to a nearby hotel is usually about 10GBP

Return airport transfer can be arranged with the reception of the resort. The cost will be around £10. 

Please bring suitable training gear such as trainers, a couple of pairs of shorts, sports bras for the girls, and training tops. We advise bringing a towel as well to take to the gym and also a beach towel. Please bring a padlock for your locker. 

This depends on your own spending choices, but as 2 meals (breakfast and lunch) are  covered per day you will not need to bring much. Meals are not included on Sundays.

You only need to cover one meal a day,  your external excursions and activities. Bali is very good value, but you will want to budget spending money to go on a couple of tours, and the transportation to take you to other areas of the island. We would recommend £100 £150 per week. 

You can bring supplements with you please make sure these are clearly labelled, but you can also buy them locally at the camp. 

We have a Halal lunch menu at the moment of writing they are: Vegetable Curry, hearty Lamb Moussaka, Thai Green Curry, Chili Con Carne, Salmon Ratatouille, Cauliflower & Chicken Soup, Broccoli & Zucchini Soup. 

Yes Everything is gluten free, dairy free, and wheat free except for 1 dish: Lamb Moustaka. However, this dish only has a minor amount as well.

Scooters are widely available for hire, however, we do not recommend people hire them. Traffic conditions are crazy in Bali, and it is not uncommon for people to have very serious accidents on scooters. We will take no responsibility for any accidents or damage that occurs from clients renting scooters. Taxis are cheap and easy to arrange so we would advise that. All of the resorts are within walking distance of the training area. 

Are widely accepted. The nearest ATM is approx 200 meters from the Villa. 

Plenty. Beaches, incredible beach clubs, amazing viewpoints, waterfalls, rice fields and lookouts. There are a range of tours you can do, like visiting monkey temples, rice paddies and Hindu temples. 

Yes! 90% of our clients join the boot camp on their own. In fact far from this being a problem, we would encourage people to do so. It’s a very social environment at the camp and you will make friends very quickly. 

Typically we provide a 12 1/2% discount based on two people sharing deluxe accommodation. There is no discount for the shared villa. 

Probably 70% female30% male. Both sexes will have different goals and motivations about booking the camp as well. With women, usually it’s about toning up, weight loss and body confidence.

With men, it’s more about strength and conditioning training but not exclusively. Really  there are people who join for all reasons. The important thing to consider is everyone is catered for at the Boot Camp, and people’s goals might change throughout your stay. 

Vegetarian also have limited options for the meal plan, and a limited Vegan (2 options for Vegans)

The beach is about 1 minute from the camp. 

High season is the dry season. Between April and September Bali is typically busier than usual. While temperatures are pretty constant all year round, it’s rainfall that can make the difference between the months.

The rainy season, which usually falls between December and Jan you can expect downpours happening mainly at night. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be constantly raining all the time, you can have some heavy rains, and then it is sunny again. It’s also cooler to train during the rainy season. Can be more humid, however, the training facility is air-conditioned and the rooms are also airconditioned at night time. The boot camp runs all year, come rain or shine anyway. 

Due to the nature of the Boot Camp, we are often asked “what kind of results will I see”. This is actually an impossible question to answer because everyone is different. People have different metabolisms, and ultimately it is down to how hard you work, and how long you stay for. We are confident you will definitely see an improvement, even if you go short-term you will be set on the right path, and given a good foundation to continue your training back home. You will learn all of the tools and techniques you need in order to continue to improve. 

You do not have to attend classes. No one will make you get out of bed to come training. But you will find it’s very addictive, and most clients have no issue making it to class.

On average people train 2 to 3 hours per day. You have a good mix between group cross fit training sessions, and individual personal training sessions. When you are not training you also can join stand up paddle too (local payment)! 

Yes, people can book extra additional personal training sessions locally. 1 is included per week as standard, and this is usually enough for most people considering all the group training involved as well. 

Wifi is available in the Fitness Villa, and yes the Deluxe hotel accommodation has free wifi too. Occassionally there are power outages that may effect coverage temporarily.

Yes absolutely, we have a range of really exciting trips in Bali which you can easily bolt onto the beginning or end of this programme. For example, our Bali backpacker experience, will give you a good overview of the island and even take you to the Gili Islands. Alternatively, we have some surf trips which you can easily add on at the end of this programme. 

Unfortunately due to limited availability in the villa it is not possible to upgrade from shared villa to to deluxe after booking if you are travelling with in 12 weeks. 

At peak times you might have  a max of 3 other room mates. Usually this is less and we manage room allocation to keep the number of room mates to a minimum. Due to us managing bookings in advance it is not possible to move beds or rooms without prior agreement from reservations. If you do not feel comfortable sharing we offer the deluxe option with your own private room in a luxury hotel.

Bali is a deeply spiritual island and there are plenty of national holidays and local ceremonies which can affect training schedules. The main ceremony happening once per year is Neypi when the whole island goes on lockdown for 2 days. Please note, no businesses are allowed to operate during this time, so we lay on additional training sessions, and arrange other activities to compensate. Please check on google that your dates do not coincide with any national holidays to avoid

If your training period does coincide with a national holiday, though, it can be a great way to experience the local culture. The festivals and events, in general, tend to be quite fun, and it’s a great way to learn more about Balinese culture and get involved with the locals.

FIRST WEEK INTRO & CULTURE

Xtreme Thailand Experience (12)

Starting on the Sunday, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your new home in Singburi, a couple of hours from Bangkok, to embark upon a comprehensive introduction to Thailand.

The first week is all about getting to know everyone and doing lots of activities with The other members of the group. This is great if you have never travelled before, or you are travelling alone because you will be meeting other like-minded people and making friends very quickly and easily.

During the intro week you will learn more about Thailand, It will be an eye opening experience. With lots of day trips to get to know the local surrounding areas and places of interest. Emphasis will be placed on learning about Thai culture, Thai language and even try your hand at some Thai cooking.

You will also check out the famous Buddhist Temple: Wat Phranon Jaksi, the old capital of Ayutthaya (including a visit to the elephant village), Lopburi’s museum and pagoda, and even have a cruise along the river.

TAKE YOU PICK IN THAILAND!

If you do not know which option week you would like to be your second week do not worry, you can make that decision once you are out in Thailand. It might be that you want to hook up with some people if you have become friends with on the intro week and decide to join them on the trekking week, or maybe you rather join someone else who decided to do the Buddhism & Culture week. It is very easy to go with the flow! So let’s look at some of the options.

Elephant Week

With this adventure week option you will learn how to take care of the Elephants, head off through forests and around the camp with these majestic creatures (you even have a photo opportunity on the back of an elephant) , bath them and feed them. Even go swimming with them. This week is an unrivaled opportunity to learn about Elephants and connect with your very own. Just be warned you can ´t take it with you when your week is up!

Umphang is about 8 hours from Bangkok, but the ride is worth it! From monolithic temple protrusions, to the living, breathing, legendary white elephant herds of the royal order, the faded beer vests of Khao San Road travellers, to the somewhat infamous, green and gold labels of ´Chang´, if there is one symbol that reverberates the mystical and multifarious character of this Eastern land more than any other, it is the Thai Elephant. Historically, the Thai people´s ally in work and war, at once both strong and placid, roaming the jungle smothered hills of a nation curiously similar in spirit and character to these colossal yet graceful beasts, the decline in wild elephant populations all over Southeast Asia has focused modern attention more vigorously than ever on the enduring character, survival and habitats of the Asian elephant.

We´re offering you the chance to really get stuck in; with our week-long Thai elephant experience package in Umphang, you´ll be surrounded by trunk and tree from begging to end, living and working ´at the coalface´ with these undeniably inspiring creatures. Nestled in the limestone valleys of Tak Province in North-central Thailand, amidst the low mists of rice paddies (the local labour staple), soaring Burmese mountain horizons to the west, and some of the most traditional, untouched, ´un-touristy´ Thai towns of yesteryear, where the local folk still cast curious glances at western visitors and sizzle up regional dishes from fiery track-side stalls.

Our elephant experience option runs from Monday to Saturday and aims to give you an encompassing introduction to what life is like working with these animals. We try to make sure you get the broadest possible experience by getting you working with elephants of all ages and genders, always in their natural habitat.

You will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities necessary to providing good care, whilst helping to ensure the stability of the elephants´ lives here.

With rich, thick, natural jungle terrain and forested hills typical to this region of Thailand, we are lucky to be able to maintain an environment very similar to that enjoyed by the remaining few thousand wild elephants in Southeast Asia, and, with only a few elephant sanctuaries so indelibly surrounded by nature, our ability to do this is largely unique throughout the country.

The elephant care at our sanctuary is comprehensive, and we like to get participants involved with all aspects of this. Washing the elephants in the natural lake (one of many in the areas surrounding Umphang) on our grounds, or perhaps, simply socialising with these animals, so strangely human in their own way, your responsibilities are wide ranging and aim to give a broad cross-section of elephant care experience.

In addition, with a diet of up to 180kg of vegetation daily, you can see how preparing the elephants´ intake of greens (usually a mixture of locally sourced sugarcane, banana plant or grasses) could represent one of your main daily tasks, while the routine evening ´trek of the elephants´ back to their forest sleeping areas as the pink Thai sun drops behind the distant hill vistas, is something to always look forward to.

You will work directly with experienced native mahouts (elephant carers) who have grown up with these creatures, training them and ensuring their continued survival. Consequently, there are perhaps no people more readily in tune with the elephant mind than native Thai mahouts, and no better people with whom to experience what life with an elephant is like.

Every group will be assigned their own English speaking tour coordinator, who will be able to answer any practical questions you have about the structure of the experience or the practicalities of staying in Thailand.

Other Activities

Thailand

Umphang is one of the few remaining untouched and remote, natural gems of Thailand. Like Kanchanaburi to the south, it retains the reputation as one of the ´jump-off points´ (no pun intended) for waterfall enthusiasts and, aside from the Thee Lor Sue on the Mae Klong (which is claimed to be Thailand´s biggest, a two day organised trek from Umphang), there are two local falls (Nam Tok Tharark and Nam Tok Pha), with fresh, cool water; a place to distress your post-work muscles and swap elephant stories with your fellow travellers.

You´ll also be able to tick off one of north Thailand´s must-do activities: Rafting. The local medium-speed rivers provide the perfect raft ride through remote jungle scenery, and it´s a great way to spend a day away from the project.

Accommodation during the week

Thailand just wouldn´t be Thailand without its bamboo, jungle shrouded cabins, looking like they´ve just popped up from the earth, just like the waxy banana plants and bending palms around them. During your stay here you´ll crash in one fully equipped with all the necessities of a rural Thai excursion: Mosquito nets, showers, and sun drenched decking for those cold Changs after a long day with the elephants.

You will receive three square meals a day, all healthy and packed full of the rich flavours Thai cuisine has become so famous for. We try and strike a nice balance between western styles and the spiced-up, aromatic local dishes of Umphang, to keep everything nice and varied.

Accommodation is shared with other experience participants, giving you a great opportunity to socialise with like-minded, elephant-loving people.

Elephant Experience Thailand (4)
During the second week you and other participants have the option to go trekking in the jungle and rainforest of the Phutoei National Park, a lush park not often visited by other tourists.

This again will be a unique experience. You will be roughing it, but in beautiful surroundings. After this experience, you will have a lot to boast about when you go home as you will be sleeping in tents and surviving with the basics – we´re sure you will have a lot of fun!

The trekking option is fully guided by trained national park rangers, so you will be in safe hands but it is certainly an adventure!

Please note this is not for the fainthearted, sorry roughing it and trekking is not for you do not pick this option!

Xtreme Thailand Experience (5)
It is quite a ride to get here from the location of the introduction week, but totally worth it! Your time will be spend in the Forest Resort, a luxury new resort and in a newly built dorm accommodation next to the ancient Thai temple.

If you choose the Buddhism & Culture week you will get to know a lot more about Buddhism and Thai culture. During this week you will visit temples, you have the opportunity to ask your questions about Buddhism to the monks, we will teach you about practising meditation and chanting in a quiet and spiritual environment. Our guide is very knowledgeable and will tell you all you need to know. If you have a real interest in Buddhism & Culture, this is the programme for you!

Remember you do not have to to decide which option you pick when you book, you can wait to see what takes your fancy when you are in Thailand.

BANGKOK STOP OVER

At the end of the second week (Saturday) you head to Bangkok

In between heading to Koh Tao and finishing your option weeks you have 1 or 2 full day in Bangkok (One if you are on the elephant option as you will arrive back in Bangkok quite late).

You will arrive at the bus station on the Saturday (the elephant option arrives on the Sunday morning) and need to make your own way to the hotel.

This is a £4 taxi ride from the bus station. There is no set itinerary for Bangkok, but there is plenty to do you can see and do. You will be staying next to the Khao San Road in a nice hostel, so you can chill, or visit many of the sites Bangkok has to offer. Most of our gappers will take a river cruise to see all of the ancient temples, spend some time hunting for bargains in the markets and sample some of the amazing nightlife on the Khao San road. The nightlife there is legendary, so fortunately you are just literally on the doorstep so you can fall back into the hotel. Breakfast is included which will help soak up the hangover too.

Staying the Saturday night for one night in Bangkok you then transfer to Koh Tao by night bus and boat on Sunday night, you need to get yourself to the bus departure point by this is very easy as shown in the video below.

This means you will arrive in Koh Tao first thing on the Monday morning (about 9 am) where we will pick you up off the boat. Our rep will be waiting for you and we include a welcome breakfast for you!

Onto Paradise

Itinerary For Beach and Action Weeks:

With multiple options available to you on Koh Tao we have created the following brochure to help clarify some of the exciting activities you can do. All of these are exclusive to Xtreme Gap Year. Online Brochure with activities on Koh Tao.

IMG_1904The Koh Tao beach week and action itinerary is flexible because it depends on the option you choose for the action week and the weather, but in general you have 12 days to check out the amazing beaches, get involved in some cool adventures with your new friends and enjoy the epic sunsets and nightlife.

You will also have your Xtreme Adventure Day so there will be plenty to do and certainly never a dull moment!

On arrival you will have a full introduction from our resident rep who will settle you into the island life and it will go like this:

    • You arrive by night bus and boat on Monday morning where you will be picked up and taken to your accommodation.
    • Once you are checked in, you have time to relax, jump in the pool and freshen up.
    • In the afternoon around 4 our Rep Miss Jai will meet you and the rest of the group at the bar and give you an intro to Koh Tao. She will show you round, tell you the essentials, and show you where everything is like ATMs, pharmacies, beaches and activity locations. She is on hand through out the week if you need her too.
    • You will then go out for dinner (on us) with the rest of the group, expect a tasty Thai curry! The next day you will be taken by miss Jai to start your activity, depending on the option you have picked.
    • Your Koh Tao itinerary will be explained to you locally. Where and when you have to be will be put up on the Xtreme Gap notice board at the resort.

TROPICAL ISLAND PARADISE…WOW!

Koh Tao has some of the best beaches in Thailand, it is also one of the most popular backpacker hubs in South East Asia, but not ruined like some of the other islands, there is a great community and vibe to the place you are going to love spending time here.

We have many Xtreme Gappers resident on the Island as we run lots of different trips there so there is lots going on. It is also a great place to learn to dive as well, so you can take advantage of getting your PADI Open water while you are there as well.

This part of the trip is all about being social and having fun, you can take long tail boat trips round the island, enjoy amazing Thai food and stay up all night in some of the best beach clubs and bars in Asia. After a few days of chill, you will want to pick up the pace again, so we finish the trip with the action week! The Koh Tao adventure day is the perfect end to the week.

FOOD & EATING OUT

Please note we include 1 breakfast and 2 meals on Koh Tao. There are plenty of restaurants serving delicious and healthy Thai food as little as one pound per meal and there is a restaurant the resort also.

We do not include food because it’s such a sociable atmosphere with so many great places to eat and explore you will want to go off and eat out with lots of new friends. Including food would really limit your options and detract from the whole experience. Bear in mind though we do include food for the first two weeks of this programme (Most other gap year companies ´s Thailand programmes do not) so you have already saved over £250 worth of spending money by booking with Xtreme.

You will receive a welcome breakfast, a lovely Thai meal on your first evening in Koh Tao and a BBQ after the Beach Clean up day though.

THE ADVENTURE DAY

The adventure day is just that an adventure, so sometimes we mix it up. But below is a summary of what you can expect.

Everyone meets at the Xtreme Gap Resort for a breakdown of the days activities.   Expect to be taken to a pretty amazing viewpoint on the neighbouring paradise island of Koh Nangyuan. Even the ride itself is a lot of fun, open air on a longtail boat with spectacular views of Sairee beach.

There will be plenty of time to explore the island, swim with tropical fish and chill on in this piece of perfection.

Beach For Sunset

On arrival at Sairee beach, we will pull up to a pool bar so you can grab a sundowner and watch a spectacular sun set into the ocean.

Some are Xtreme and really get the blood pumping, others are devoted to health, fitness, and well-being and you can even be involved in a hands-on conservation project to try and help with the preservation of Koh Tao. There is truly something for everyone.

Koh Tao cross that
So when you are lying on a dreamy white sandy beach, in a paradise setting wouldn’t it be nice to have the body to match. With our cross fit package you can! Four full on cross fit sessions, with professional accredited Cross fitness trainers will whip you into shape so you will not feel guilty about lazing on the beach, and dipping into the Gulf of Thailand will be so much more rewarding.

If you are not familiar with the concept of cross fit, you can join the 4 Foundation classes. These 4 classes will teach you all the basic movements and techniques for CrossFit, so that they are able to do the movements safely and effectively. These classes are similar to personal training as our coach will spend lots of time helping them with the movements.

We run the Foundation classes every day at 10.15am and so they can easily do the Foundation classes in a week.

Please also check out the video below it is the latest fitness craze that has become huge. It’s highly effective high-intensity WODS (work out of the day) mixes hundreds of different techniques and every day is always different. With this option is the perfect way to get into excellent physical shape and get that perfect beach body!

Thailand Muay thai Training (7)
The fit package is the most popular option. It includes 5 Muay Thai sessions taken over five days. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done it before, learning the national sport of Thailand in a cool jungle gym is an awesome experience. It is a great way to try something new, get really fit and learn much more about the culture of Thailand.

You will under go a modified non-contact training regime in the camp that host monthly Muay Thai fights, a really authentic and cool experience!

Some like to do it in the morning and then hit the beach others like the cooler evening training times.

Koh Tao yoga option
Probably one of our most chilled out options, you have five sessions working on your well-being, and flexibility with a fantastic yoga package. Set in landscaped gardens surrounded by coconut groves there’s a special feeling about the place.

Just a short stroll from the ocean, you will find a gorgeous yoga Sala, where we have included five sessions are you to get into yoga spirituality and hopefully find Nirvana.

Even if you’ve never tried yoga before this is the perfect place to do it, as everyone is welcome to come and give it a go and it is the perfect activity to take if you want to turn your Koh Tao experience into the ultimate chilled out beach time.

 

This is a full blow open water course worth over £200. The course lasts 3/4 days and includes 4 dives in the beautiful Gulf of Thailand. Afterwards, you have your PADI Open Water license and can dive anywhere in the world! Not sure about this option? You can always add it on while you are out there with us in Thailand.

This is probably the most Xtreme option, and one of the most rewarding! Our professional freediver instructors will teach you the basics of Freediving, and accompany you down to depths of 12 metres!

The actual course itself lasts 2 days and included theory and water based instruction. Free diving is about breath holds diving, so no use scuba equipment. This means you are not limited by nitrogen in your blood or depth limits. It takes mental and physical training to become an expert free diver, but our course will certainly get you well on your way there. With beautiful Marine life, soft and hard corals it’s a great way to train yourself to experience the best that the underwater environment has to offer in Koh Tao.

If you’re really lucky you may even get a free diving the whale shark!

 

 

NIGHTLIFE & BEACH TIME & ACTIVITIES

Koh Tao is not only famous for its great diving and beautiful beaches, there is quite a party scene there too! Picture cool beach bars, fire shows, awesome night clubs like Fizz bar within easily stumbling distance to your accommodation. If you want to have some serious fun after the sun sets, you will not be disappointed.

This is a great way to finish up on your trip, after experiencing the culture its time to party. Speaking of which…

Beach Clean up day

Ecodave Xtreme GapAt Xtreme gap year we strongly believe in leaving a positive impact on the locations we visit. Mass tourism does take its toll on the environment. This is especially true on small tropical islands like Koh Tao. We strongly feel  it is everyone’s responsibility to make a contribution to maintaining, and improving the places that we visit. We have partnered with Koh Tao’s leading conservation organisations and every trip we run makes a financial contribution to Eco-conservation efforts.

So as part of this trip, we co-host an eco-day. This is split into two parts. A lecture by leading conservationists, on marine conservation, and a hands-on beach clean-up so you can make a physical real difference during your trip. The aim is to provide you with information so you can make people aware of the issues. As well as physically helping out with marine conservation efforts.

It’s a fun day out, it’s a great way to see lots of out of the way beaches on Koh Tao, and feel good about yourself whilst making a positive difference on the island. In the evening we finish up with a barbecue, in one of Koh Tao’s hotspots by way of saying thanks for your efforts.

If you have completed your open water is part of this program, you can be involved in underwater clean-ups, if not its land-based conservation which is just as, or if not even more vital to marine conservation efforts. 80% of trash entering the waters comes from land-based sources.

Xtreme Discover Scuba Dive & Stand Up Paddling

With crystal clear waters, water sports on Koh Tao are amazing! Included as part of the programme you get to try out scuba diving! Safely guiding you in a swimming pool, in a controlled environment. We will let you try out breathing underwater from scuba gear. It’s a great way to get a feel for diving, and an incredible experience is never done it before. If you do like it, you can always upgrade to doing an open water course and take full advantage of the fact that Koh Tao is one of the best places to learn to dive in the world. If diving really is not your thing, don’t worry you don’t have to do it but most people who try and not going for a full-blown ought course afterwards. It’s an amazing experience to explore and breathe underwater. This is just one of many extra additional inclusions we throw into the trip, where other companies would leave you to go “snorkelling”.

End of your trip> Transfer Back to Bangkok

We do not include the transfer back in the price as there are a few options. Some of our travellers stay on the island or travel on in Thailand and Asia, some will take the boat and bus service back to Bangkok and some will prefer to go by plane from the next door island Koh Samui. read about the options in the frequently asked questions section below. ACCOMMODATION

Because you stay in various different locations throughout the trip accommodation does vary, however, expect to stay in comfortable and clean and secure accommodation. On the islands, you will stay in a luxury resort, with a swimming pool set in beautiful Thai Gardens just a short walk from the beach and bars and restaurants.

It’s the main resort Xtreme Gap uses in Thailand, Xtreme Gappers to hang out with and share adventures. Accommodation is shared on a twin share in a Fan Room. Upgrades to Aircon rooms are only possible on Koh Tao and only upon booking.

The accommodation in the resort in Koh Tao is the basic fan option at a great resort, perfect for your stay in paradise. A short stroll through a lovely street with little shops and some restaurants and just 5 min from the beach will get you to this perfectly located resort. A beautiful and laid back resort with a swimming pool, bar and restaurant set in tropical Thai gardens. The fan rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, have an en-suite and there is a maid service twice a week and a laundry service (approx. £1.50 per big bag load) located next door.

Your new home will be one of our 3 ”Eco Houses” in Singburi in central Thailand the Lemon House, the Twin House and the Brown House. Situated about 10 km from the town of Singburi and takes about 15 minutes from the eco- houses. In Singburi you will find all the amenities you could need i.e. internet, shops, swimming pool, hospital, pharmacy, banks and restaurants, and there are plenty of trips into Singburi or you can easily take a taxi.The houses sleep from 20 to 50 people.

All houses have single gender shared dorm rooms with the number of beds ranging from 3 to 12. All houses have western style toilets and one even as an Asian toilet! Each bathroom has a shower and the water is always cool nice and refreshing in the heat. All houses have a communal area where you can eat, relax and meet. Most of the houses are within walking distance of a local shop and a make shift bar provided by the friendly locals. The doors and windows are screened All food is included during your stay. The meals will be typical Thai fare, including plenty of rice dishes.

During the Elephant Week:

Thailand just would not be Thailand without its bamboo, jungle-shrouded cabins, looking like they´ve just popped up from the earth, just like the waxy banana plants and bending palms around them. During your stay here you´ll crash in one fully equipped with all the necessities of a rural Thai excursion: Mosquito nets, showers, and sun drenched decking for those cold Changs after a long day with the elephants.

You will receive three square meals a day, all healthy and packed full of the rich flavours Thai cuisine has become so famous for. We try and strike a nice balance between western styles and the spiced-up, aromatic local dishes of Umphang, to keep everything nice and varied.

Accommodation is shared with other experience participants, giving you a great opportunity to socialise with like-minded, elephant-loving people.

During the Buddhism and culture week you stay in another location called Wang Nam Khieow, it is a really beautiful area of Thailand. Cooler because it is further north and at high altitude, it is surrounded by national parks and beautiful scenery.

One of the benefits of booking your trip on Koh Tao with Xtreme Gap Year is not only do you get to do this awesome activity, but you will become part of the Xtreme gap family on Koh Tao. We will pick you up from the pier and give you a warm welcome at our stunning resort. On your first night, our resident representative will take you out for a gorgeous Thai meal annual get to know all of the other members of the group. When you are booking a trip with us it is not just about the activity so please bear this in mind if you are comparing prices to other companies. No other company has such a big presence in Koh Tao, runs groups of like-minded travellers so booking a trip with us is as much about the friends you make as well as the experiences you will have.
Your arrival day is always the Sunday (but you can arrive Saturday if flight prices work out better for you). Make sure when arriving on the Sunday this is before 3pm.

The end day is always a Saturday. The trip end on Koh Tao. There are 2 ways to get back to Bangkok international airport.

1. Take a boat at 10 am to the neighbouring island Koh Samui. there is an airport here. Book a flight for after 2 PM to be save. The flight takes about an hours. make sure you have at least 2 hours before your international flight home departs. Its a big airport and you need to check in 2 hours before.

2. Take the boat and bus to Bangkok. You leave Koh Tao at 10 am and arrive in Bangkok at 8 pm. the you need about an hour to get to the airport by taxi, depending traffic. Again keep in mind you need about 2 hours before the plane leaves.

No, most of our travellers are solo travellers. You will meet lots of people on the different weeks. With group start dates and lots of group activities, you will make new friends really easy.

The trip ends in Koh Tao on Saturday, please note return transfer is not included in the price of the trip. This is because many people choose to travel onwards to other locations or stay in Koh Tao to do further programmes.

Returning back to Bangkok to meet your flight is very easy, transfers can be arranged on Koh Tao through rep and the cost is approximately £15. If you’re flying out straight after the trip ends, you have two options to meet your flight in Bangkok.

Our recommended option is to fly from Koh Samui directly to Bangkok airport, rep can organise your bus tickets to Samui airport, this will involve catching the boat late Saturday morning and arriving in Koh Samui at around three o’clock. Transfers are provided from the pier direct to the airport and are complimentary.

Please ensure that your flights are not booked any earlier than this and do allow for delays, so we would recommend not booking a flight back to Bangkok until the afternoon which also allows time to check in at the airport as well. Check Bangkok Airways the cheap flights booked ahead this should not cost you any more than £30 the flight time is approximately 40 min.

Option two would be to get the morning boat from Koh Tao back to Bangkok via bus and boat, the transfer time between six and eight hours typically you will get back into Bangkok about 10 o’clock in the evening. This would require an extra night stay in Bangkok, and if you are to pursue this option we do not recommend you do not organise your international flight until Sunday. Again the cost for this transfer is about £15.

If you are planning on travelling to Thailand for 28 days or less and you have British, Dutch or USA passport you can get a Visa exemption on arrival. This is valid for 28 days and cannot be extended in Thailand. If you are planning on being in Thailand longer than 28 days you will need to pre-arrange a Visa. You can prearrange a visa for 60 days which you can extend to 90 days in Thailand.

There are two ways of arranging your visa. When you are from the UK. You can either go in person to the Thai embassy in London, or you can post your passport along with the necessary documentation and fee to one of the Thai Consulates. In general this works the same for the other countries like The Netherlands and United States too, but please contact the nearest Thai Consulate for visa inquiries.

Some of our customers prefer a bigger room or an aircon room. We can arrange this, but it needs to be done at the time of booking, as the resort often fills up. If you are on the programme and still want to arrange it, you would have to arrange that with reception at the resort, and pay for accommodation again. So best to let us know at time of booking.

Singburi is a province in the centre of Thailand. It has got a very nice and chilled atmosphere. You stay in eco houses in the shade of banana palms trees by the Noi Nam river. Sing Buri is rich of cultural history. The province houses many temples, museums, and historical sites. You can easily say it is the epic centre for Thai history and a great place to get under the skin of the country.

Yes, if you arrive during the weekend we will pick you up. When you arrive during a weekday we can still pick up at any time, but there is a £50 extra payment. If you wish a few extra days in Bangkok beforehand you will have to make your own way on the Sunday to the meeting point at the Royal Hotel. Meeting time is at 1pm.

This is a hard question as age range does vary. On the groups that join the intro and culture weeks the average age is between 18 and 22. On Koh Tao with the Koh Tao Adventure (which are the last 2 weeks of this programme) the average age tends to be in the twenties.

Is this trip suitable for you? The average age on this trip is between 18 and 22. Although it is open to all. The makeup of the groups is usually 75% female to 25% male, just going to show, girls really are braver than boys! So come on lads, what are you waiting for? Prove us wrong!

The final week finishes on the Saturday morning, so you can arrange your transfer back to Bangkok with Miss Jai via boat and Bus (12 hours) or book a flight from Koh Samui to Bangkok (2 hour boat and 45 minute flight). This is the preferred option for most of our travellers as this gets you straight in to the international airport for a smooth flight connection back home.

Become a Kite God and experience true freedom!

If one word sums up what it is like to be a Kite surfer that word would have to be freedom. When you are hooked into a power kite on the open water with wind propelling you at great speeds it’s an amazing feeling.

Then combine the ability to jump, and use the power of the kite to give you amazing hang time you can pretty much fly as well. Kite surfing is like skiing or snowboarding, but more forgiving. But there’s a lot of skill involved in being able to master the moves.

Fortunately, it’s not difficult it just takes practice, a little bit of ability and the right instruction. Mostly it takes an opportunity, because it’s weather dependent you need the ability to jump in the water as soon as the wind is on. This is what this course gives you. Located right by the sea, weather permitting you can go kiting every day, improve your kite surfing ability and come home with an amazing new addiction.

Be warned though, kite surfing is a lifestyle. Once you have the bug, nothing will be the same. You will crave wind like you are possessed. Because with wind, comes the ability to at least something so fun, it will make good days great days.

It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to become really good at something. But given enough time, and the opportunity to do so, perfecting a skill is an awesome achievement. Apply this to kite surfing and you got the ingredients for something amazing.

The Lifestyle

This is not just a Kite Surf course. Yes of course is fantastic instruction, and there’s more on that below, but signing up to this program is investing in your summer.

The location of the kite surf camp is unrivalled. You will live right by the sea, 10 m from the beach, 50 m from the kite surf channel. That gives you the ability to go kite surfing every day. And should the wind not come in, you can go and explore the bay on stand-up paddles. The kite surf house is located in a national park, in a truly beautiful location.

The sandy shallow bay of Pollenca, stretches out in front of the house. It’s a large bay, with aquamarine water which is quite shallow for several hundred metres providing the perfect conditions to learn to Kite Surf.  The water is warm, and the views are stunning. Dramatic mountains stretch to the north, and Majorca’s best beaches are within a short distance from where you are staying.

In the evenings you are a short walk from the bars and restaurants of Port of Pollenca town  See can go and hit the nightlife with your fellow kite surfers. If a full day on the water has knackered you out, we have an amazing chillout area on the roof of the beach health. A huge kite surf viewing platform by day, chillout zone and outdoor cinema by night!

Accommodation

Xtreme Gap Year has a beach house in Majorca, where we run this kite surf programme. You will stay in a shared apartment right by the beach in a beautiful National Park. We have 2 dorms, based on same-sex sharing 4 people per dorm. The apartment is entirely self-contained, so there are cooking facilities, shared bathroom, lounge and outdoor chillout zones in the garden.

 

Learning to Kite Surf what is it like?

Talk to anyone who’s into kite surfing and you will find out how enthusiastic and impassioned they are about this amazing sport. It’s easy to think, looking at some of the acrobatic and near death-defying moves that good kite surfers can pull off that is an almost impossible sport to get good at. Not true. Kite surfing is like anything it takes practice but anyone can learn. You build it up in stages from the basics mastering techniques until you become intermediate through to advanced.

It requires time on the water, and of course wind! But this is why this program is so good. With Majorca’s thermal wind, pretty much guaranteeing to blow every single day throughout the summer months you are out on the water every day. You have the time to perfect the basics, and start mastering intermediate techniques like jumps, transitions and some seriously cool moves.

Once you become a kite surfer, and you are up and running on the water it becomes highly addictive. The sheer freedom of movement on the water gives you a taste of something that is hard to give up.

Kite surfing is quite forgiving on the body, because most of the weight and force is taken by the harness, which means you can spend hours on the water without getting overtired. It’s a sport that gives you speed, the ability to fly, jump and buzz over the water like no other sport can.

How are the days structured?

Majorca benefits from thermal wind in the summer. This is basically a seabreeze that rushes in as the land heats up over the day. Locally this is known as “Embat” and has been a constant since the island was 1st populated thousands of years ago.

Because it takes time for the land to heat up the thermal wind doesn’t kick in until around 1 o’clock. So mornings are easy at the kite Academy. Get up when you are ready, and have breakfast. You are able to enjoy your breakfast on the roof terrace with 360° views of the kite beach, mountains a world heritage site and the largest National Park in Majorca all around. It’s a truly terrific spot. If you want to get active before hitting the water, you can take a mountain biking go explore the natural reserve. Most people will take time to chill in the morning, brush up on some theory to fix in their mind the techniques they want to try out that day.

Then come 1230 time to gear up. We had down to the launch channel which is located conveniently just 200 m from the house.

You will inflate your kites, connect your lines, do your safety checks and then it’s time on the water. The wind will blow solidly until about 4 o’clock, sometimes later but 4 hours a day on the water is more than enough to see some serious progression as the weeks go by.

Come 6 o’clock you will be back at the house for dinner, with a debrief, discussing what you learned that day before having a well deserved dinner on the roof terrace.

The evenings are free to do as you wish. You are very close to the bars and restaurants of port de pollenca and Alcudia, or you can chill catch a movie on our large outdoor cinema, and just enjoy the local environment.

Here’s how it normally goes. When you start learning, you usually have around 12 hours of instruction which is a beginner kite surfing course. The 1st half a day, let’s say around 3 hours you learn all about how to set up the kite, all about the safety systems how the bar (the control system) works. The idea is to get you comfortable with the equipment, so you can then move into the water safely. Once you’re done with the safety training, you learn how to launch the kite, and you are then in the water without a board learning how to steer and control the kite. This takes usually around 4 to 5 hours depending how quickly you pick it up. It’s very much like driving a car, at 1st you don’t really know all the gears and levers do, but after a while it becomes 2nd nature. So the learning part of the course is designed to get this into your head. Once you are comfortable with the kite control, and the instructors also comfortable with you, you can then do body dragging. This is where you are moving through the water using the power of the kite without the board attached to you. This is where you 1st start to get a feel for the power of the kite and how it can move you through the water. Body dragging does not take that long, but it is designed to get used to the sensation of moving in the water.

 

After body dragging comes probably the most exciting bit: Water start. Water start is basically your 1st attempt at getting up on the board using the power of the kite. How long this takes is really down to the individual, some people pick it up straightaway (well within the hour) other people take quite a long time to get the feel for it. Once you do crack it, you will be up and moving and then it’s all about practice.

 

The 1st time you successfully water start, it’s a huge mix of sensations. It’s usually very exciting followed very quickly by a feeling of my God how do I stop this thing!

 

Once you are up and moving in the water, due to the nature of the sport you tend to be on your own. So it really is just like learning to drive, you have to keep practising.

If you want to go for an instructor Exam

For this reason kite surf development course is a great when they are done over several months, as you will probably need 4 to 6 months of practice prior to being able to take your instructor exam. If you are out on the water every day, you can probably cut this time down to about 3 months or 12 weeks, but I would really give yourself more time just to get as much practice as possible. The exam part is a financial commitment and you wouldn’t want to fail it, plus you need the necessary experience yourself if you’re going to be put in a position of responsibility to instruct.

Frequently Asked Questions

This programme is open to people with all levels of kite surfing ability. That includes if you’ve never even seen a kite surf in your entire life! Kite surfing is a remarkably progressive sport. No matter how long you’ve been practising, you can always improve. It’s time on the water that really makes the difference. You can go from complete novice to beginner in around 15 hours. After several weeks of constant practice you will be intermediate. But here’s the issue. Due to the sport being heavily dependent on the wind, often people don’t have the time to progress. The beautiful thing about this course is you are living right by the kite surf channel, when the wind is in which is pretty much a daily occurrence in June due to the thermal winds kicking up in Majorca, it on. You will have plenty of time to perfect your kite surf ability.

Majorca has 3 kite surf beaches. The most popular is in the bay of Pollenca on the north-east of the island. This is exactly where you will be located. The Beach house’s front line, you are just a couple of metres from the ocean. When your kite surfing day is done, there’s plenty to do in the area as well.

If you have your own kite surf equipment you are more than welcome to bring it. However this is not necessary as all the equipment is included. Majorca during the summertime operates on thermal winds. So we use kites around 14 m with big boards for the perfect setup.

We will collect you from the airport and transfer you to the beach house. There are set pick up times so please coordinate your flights accordingly to ensure a smooth arrival.

All food is included, Gappers take it in turns to cook. We have full cooking facilities at the apartment both indoors and outdoors. Breakfast consists of bread, eggs cereals on a self-serve basis. Lunch and dinner will be healthy filling and nutritious and consists of Pasta, salads bbqs ect

Surprisingly not. It’s not easy, but it’s certainly not difficult. It’s a bit like learning to drive the car. Once you know how to do it, safely it becomes 2nd nature. But then it’s about improving your skills, and that requires time on the water. Something that you will have loads of on this course.

Day 1: Arrive to the Land of Smiles!

You´re getting closer and closer to the greatest adventure of your life. Just 10 minutes from landing in Bangkok airport, you start to feel the butterflies in your stomach. A new friend is waiting for you on the other side, ready to take you through the crazy streets of Bangkok to your accommodation and a group of fellow travellers who will soon become close friends. Once you´ve taken some time to relax and unwind in the guesthouse after your flight, you´ll head out for dinner and drinks with your new friends and travel buddies on the iconic Khao San Road.

Welcome to the first day of your amazing Thai adventure! It only gets better from here!

Day 2: Exploring the In´s and Out´s of Bangkok

Bangkok is known as the ´Venice of the East´, so what better way to explore the city than taking to the rivers. Cruising along the Chao Phraya River, you´ll experience one of the most epic skylines in Asia, seeing how the modern metropolis has merged with the ancient temples to create one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

After the river cruise, you´ll visit two of the most important temples in Thailand, where you´ll get your first experience of the beauty and intrigue of Thai history and culture. Next, we´ll jump on a Tuk Tuk for a whirlwind ride through the city back to Khao San Road. If you´ve never been on a Tuk Tuk before, you´ll be laughing (and possibly screaming) all the way, as it swerves and dodges all sorts of traffic and obstacles imaginable. Who knew driving could be so adventurous!

Finish the day with an amazing lunch and dinner in one of the best eating spots in Bangkok, Khao San Road; cheap, authentic and delicious!

Day 3: Preparing to head South

Your final day in Bangkok sees you getting ready to head to the tropical south of the country. After checking out of your accommodation, you´ll have an opportunity to relax with a traditional Thai Massage in a local spa. This should keep you sufficiently chilled out during your overnight train journey to the south of the country. You´ll probably be so relaxed that you´ll fall asleep on the train. If not, make sure to check out the awesome views of the Thai countryside.

Don´t worry though, as you´ll have plenty of time to pick up some souvenirs and do a little shopping in the awesome Khao San Road before you depart from Bangkok.

Day 4: Visiting Paradise in Khao Sok National Park

Prepare to be in awe of the beauty of Khao Sok National Park. Arriving bright and early at 7am, after the overnight train, you´ll be taken direct to the stunning park. Your accommodation here just so happens to be floating on the Cheow Larn Lake. Yep, you read correctly! These cute wooden bungalows are situated on a beautiful turquoise lake, surrounded by mountains covered in lush evergreen rainforest. You can even sit right outside your bungalow door, cooling down by dangling your feet in the lake!

Swimming, kayaking, tubing, bamboo rafting and cave exploring are just some of the awesome adrenaline-pumping activities that can be enjoyed in the park, while surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery you´ll ever see. We´re sure you´ll never want to leave your temporary home floating on the lake. However, Thai beaches are waiting:and that´s a pretty good excuse to keep moving!

Day 5: Beaches, Waves and Cocktails

Today we leave Khao Sok National Park via ferry to Koh Phangan, one of the most iconic and beautiful areas in Thailand. You´ll spend the day on Bottle Beach, a postcard-perfect beach with bright white sand and turquoise blue water, often regarded as one of the best beaches in Thailand!

Swim, sunbathe, relax or snorkel during the day, while in the evening we´ll prepare an awesome private beach party for you and your travel buddies. Cocktails, a campfire, lanterns and music will make this evening one of the most memorable during your travels in Thailand.

After a few drinks and dances around the campfire, you won´t have very far to go for a good nights sleep. In fact, you´ll still be able to hear the sounds of the ocean as you stay in your own private beach bungalow just a few metres from the waves. Not a bad way to spend a day!

DAY 6: MUAY THAI TRAINING LESSON

Wake up in paradise and step out onto the soft sand of Bottle Beach. Today, you can spend the morning sleeping, swimming, getting your tan on, or taking selfies with the world´s best backdrop!

The afternoon is reserved for your Muay Thai boxing experience! Hopping in a taxi boat, we´ll head towards the fishing town of Chaloklum, where you´ll get picked up by open air taxi and travel back through the heart of Phangan to Haad Rinn. It is here where you will try your hand at a bit of Thai boxing. Over the course of an hour your will learn about the sport of Muay Thai, techniques of the national sport and experience a training session with a local fighter. After building up a sweat we check into our accommodation in Haad Rinn just in time for a shower and some sunset drinks in one of our favourite beach bars.

DAY 7: EXPLORING THE PHANGAN ISLANDS

Koh Phangan is one of the best snorkelling and diving spots in the world, and at 11am you´ll be on your way there to explore the water and island for the day. From bathing in a waterfall like a boss, to enjoying lunch on the beach and watching the sunset from the boat, your day in Koh Phangan will definitely be one for the scrapbook!

In the evening, back at the resort we´ll enjoy a dinner courtesy of the tour organizers. Of course no event is finished without some celebratory drinks to commemorate your first amazing week in paradise! On the beach, you´ll party, enjoy a famous Thai bucket or two, and dance the night away, preferably in your bare feet!

DAY 8-12: LIVING IT UP ON KOH TAO

The next four days will be spent on the beautiful Koh Tao Island just north of Koh Phangan. Here is where you can tailor make your adventure by adding in some optional activities.

You will be staying on the gorgeous Sairee beach where you can relax into laid-back island life and choose how you spend each day. If you want to experience the best adrenaline-pumping adventure, you can add in additional activities (at an extra cost) like scuba diving, rock climbing, abseiling, water skiing, wake boarding and free diving. You do not have to pre-book. Decide what you want to do when you arrive. The included activity during the four days will be a boat trip to Koh Nangyuan, one of the most picturesque spots in the world where you can take in the surroundings, top up the tan and even enjoy a spot of snorkelling.

Day 12-15: Heading West

You´ve come to the end of your stay on Koh Tao, but don´t worry; there are lots more beautiful beaches and islands waiting to be explored in Thailand. One of those beaches is Railay on the west coast of Thailand; one of the most remarkably beautiful beaches on earth.

Although Railay is on the mainland, it is only accessible by boat so you´ll still feel like you´re on a remote tropical island, surrounded by scenery that looks like it´s been taken straight from a postcard.

Here you can relax, play, drink, eat and enjoy your surroundings, in between more intensive activities such as snorkelling, sea kayaking and rock climbing. Make sure to climb up to the lagoon viewpoint for some of the most fantastic views in the country.

The nightlife in Railay is always buzzing, with fire shows a regular fixture of the nightly entertainment around the many bars and restaurants.

Day 15-17: Island Bliss

We´re sure you´ve heard about your next location; the absolutely beautiful Maya Bay; so good it even stole the limelight from Leonardo DiCaprio in the film The Beach!

You´ll get to spend two glorious days on Phi Phi Island, taking a sunset boat trip around the other islands including Maya Bay, Monkey Island and the Viking Caves. Free lunch will be served on the boat before continuing on for more snorkelling and swimming back in the emerald waters of Phi Phi Island.

In the evenings, hang out with the group, enjoy some drinks and the nightlife, or do some amazing night swimming among the ´glow in the dark´ plankton.

Day 17-18: Final Days in the Land of Smiles

In the morning, we take a trip to Thailand´s largest island; Phuket. Phuket is as you would expect of any of the Thai islands; beautiful and laid-back with lots of things to do. It´s the perfect place to spend your final night in Thailand before leaving the next day for home, or the next part of your journey.

Party all night in Patong town, the party capital of Phuket, experiencing the nightlife through amazing Party Tuk Tuks; the ultimate crazy way to end your epic 18-day trip through the most beautiful country on earth!

On day 18, we´ll help you organize everything you need to make it back to Bangkok for homeward bound flights, or whether you´re continuing your journey through Thailand and Southeast Asia.

Please note this is a flexible itinerary. Due to local conditions, changes can and often do happen at local level,  which means the above itinerary, and things listed in the included section,  is meant as a reference guide as to what might happen not as a contractual obligation as to everything included. Sometimes we add additional things into the itinerary, sometimes we do not do all the things listed due to group members wanting to do other activities instead.

During the trip you will stay in a variety of gorgeous cosy guesthouses, backpacker hostels and even in a floating resort. You share your accommodation With one other person of the same sex. We really go to town on the quality of accommodation as well for instance on the final night you will stay in a luxurious resorts.

It depends how long you are travelling for or if you are moving onto another country after but you will not need to pack much for SE Asia. The climate will stay the same all year round which will be in the mid 30´s so light clothing will be best. It will also help if you use a backpack rather than a suitcase as it will be more comfortable for you to travel around with.
Can I speak to other group members before I go? Yes of course you can. We will put you in touch with other group members shortly before your tour. You can also join our Facebook page to interact with your group and others, see pictures etc.
It is recommended that you do take malaria pills in some parts of Thailand and the surrounding countries. The areas that we visit during the tour are generally considered malaria free however this can change so always speak to your GP before you travel and if you are going to other areas of Thailand and S.E. Asia it is very likely that you will need some. You can also consult the CDC website for more info
If you are susceptible to motion sickness then you may experience symptoms during a cruise/ferry, although symptoms tend to disappear as you adapt to the conditions in one or two days. Your Group Leader can help you pick up some medication that will help with this or you could look into getting some sea sickness bands which are now commonly available

The Centre for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) does recommendations vaccinations such as hepatitis A & B and Typhoid as well as being sure you are up to date on routine vaccinations. For more information, you can visit the CDC website but please remember that information surrounding vaccinations changes on a regular basis so always consult your GP before you travel.

The first day of your tour is mainly a check-in/meet and greet. It gives you the chance to chill out after a long haul flight. Day two is the start of your activities. Do I need to pay for any transport? All transport is included with the Experience within the week.

(Please note: If you arrive in Bangkok 3 days or more prior to your start date, you may have to arrange and pay for your own airport transfer.) and if you choose to go out in the evenings or take part in activities not included in the itinerary then you will need to pay for your own cabs etc…

Any time is a good time. The climate is relatively steady throughout the year and it depends where in Thailand you are going. It can rain more down South during October and November and there are some fluctuations in temperature but in most of the country it is guaranteed to be hot all year round! See our Weather page for more info. When will I meet my group leader? Your tour leader will greet you off your flight at Bangkok airport and take you to your guesthouse. If you have already arrived in Bangkok prior to your start date, then we will put you in touch and your Group Leader will arrange to meet you at the guesthouse when you arrive.
It differs from city to city but very rarely drops below 25 degrees Celsius. Bangkok is always around 35c and tends to have the odd down pour. Do not pay attention to the iphone weather app as it will always say thunderstorms in Bangkok. Not the case! On the islands it is less humid and averages around 33c all year round. They do have a brief rain season between October and November, however it usually only rains for about an hour or two with sunshine for the rest of the day.  Yes. The media has a tendency to report only the very worst news, which means that we can get quite a negative impression of a country and quite often we don’t hear anything about the very friendly, helpful people and extraordinary cultures in these amazing destinations.
Nearly 95% of Thailand’s population is Buddhist of the Theravada school, though Buddhism in this country has become integrated with folk beliefs such as ancestor worship as well as Chinese religions from the large Thai-Chinese population. Buddhist temples in Thailand are characterized by tall golden stupas, and the Buddhist architecture of Thailand is similar to that in other Southeast Asian countries, particularly Cambodia and Laos, with which Thailand shares cultural and historical heritage.
You will automatically be granted a 28 day tourist visa on entry to Thailand if you are from one of the countries on the exemption list (see our Visa page). Generally people will arrive on that date or one or two days before hand. World Class Crossfit Style  Training. Strength, Conditioning & Weightloss.

The training facilities are arguably some of the best in Bali. A substantial training facility that can accommodate up to 80 clients at one time. Not only do we have a fully functioning CrossFit area, plus resistance weights and an impressive stock of weights and machines. We also have recreational activities like volleyball, basketball and the soccer field as well.

Occasionally we hold conferences on health and fitness with guest speakers in the lecturing facilities there, although this is usually a special one-off event and not included in a typical package per se.

The training can take it out of you, so to relax after a hard session you stay in super comfortable accommodation, which will have everything you need to feel relaxed and rested after a hard day of training. You are on holiday after all.

In Thailand, we put you up in our beautiful standard ensuite accommodation. Set in a resort. You have a clean comfortable room with air conditioning, private bathroom, fridge, desk, wifi, cable tv. This modern resort hotel has free high-speed internet, a nice pool and clean and comfy ensuite rooms.

BALI

SHARED VILLA ACCOMMODATiON OPTION

Right by the ocean and on campus is our beautiful massive villa! Boasting pool and Jacuzzi, chill out areas with views of the ocean and a warm friendly welcome this will be your home during your stay.

The perfect set up to relax, meet other bootcampers and feel right at home. This is the social hub of the bootcamp but also large and private enough to have important relax and down time.

The sleeping arrangements are based on air-conditioned, shared ensuite mini dorms with max. 2 – 4 persons (mixed gender, although we try to keep you separate).  Airconditioning operates from 7 pm to 7 am ensuring you get a comfortable nights sleep. During the day the villa benefits from an ocean breeze and plunge pools to cool you off after training. This is a communal set up so can be quite social and great to meet people.

If the idea of sharing is not your thing consider it is just for sleeping and you will be tired in the evening for sure! Beds are equipped with the highest quality luxury mattresses and there is plenty of space in the villa to relax. We are located right by the beach as well.

We have large screen TVs, movie projector and a huge library of DVDs for chilling in the evening.

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

People come to the camps with lots of different personal fitness goals, men and women, super athletes and people seriously out of shape! While most people who join, are of average fitness, none are by the time they leave, so depending on the time you have to devote to your body and personal health, the results can be impressive. Don´t be surprised to find professional body builders rubbing shoulders with Pro athletes  and people wanting to lose weight in a supportive training environment.
If you arrive a day early, accommodation is not included. Check in is only on Sunday. Airport pick up is included, all day at anytime but only on Sunday. If you arrive early you have to arrange your own transfer to the accommodation.
The average age of the bootcampers is between 20 and 35, but we often have over 35’s training with us as well. There could be up to 100 people staying at the camp, so you will find like minded people and make loads of new friends too.
As a general rule, everyone is different, but it depends on how much effort you put in when training, the techniques you use when training and the fuel you are putting into your body. The At Fitness boot camp, we teach you all these things and set you on the right path to peak physical fitness.
Early arrival is fine and we can recommend a few great options for accommodation. Please note that if you are not arriving on your start day, airport collection is not included, but a taxi from the airport to a nearby hotel is usually about 10GBP – 15 GBP
Please bring suitable training gear such as trainers, a couple of pairs of shorts, sports bras for the girls, and training tops. We advise bringing a towel as well to take to the gym and also a beach towel. Please bring a pad lock for your locker which is needed in Bali.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at Denpasar airport where your group leader will meet you and take you to our cool Canggu guest house to check you in. You can the relax by the pool/beach or explore Canggu before we head out in the evening for our welcome dinner and drinks where you will meet the rest of your group.

Day 2

Today we explore the culture of Bali as we head to two of its most famous temples – Tanah Lot which is set on a rock formation in the sea and the Royal Temple of Tamun Ayun. In the evening we take in the sunset on one of Canggu’s coolest beaches before big night out on the town in Seminyak.

Day 3 

On our third day we hit the beach! We learn to surf in the morning with our awesome local instructors in Canggu Beach followed by a chilled afternoon on one of Bali’s most beautiful beaches. In the evening we enjoy an experience watching a local Kecak dance, a traditional Balinese fire dancing ritual performed during sunset.

Day 4

It’s time to head to the beautiful chilled town of Ubud, on our way we cool off with a dip in a stunning natural waterfall. Then we check into our awesome accommodation before an after spent wandering around the amazing rice terraces of Ubud to see how these beautiful formations actually still play a very important role into local’s way of life.

Day 5

It’s time to meet the locals in the beautiful Monkey Forest, get up close and personal with the little guys who wander free around the forest protecting the temples inside. It’s then time for a big feed as we learn how to cook all the local delicacies at a cooking class. You can then pick up a bargain as we head back via the local markets.

Day 6

Today you will be enjoying lunch overlooking an active volcano and after we spend the afternoon taking a walk in the countryside and getting some fresh air on the Campuhan ridge walk with some amazing views over the hills of Ubud.

Day 7

It’s time to head to the islands. We catch the ferry over to the stunning tiny island of Gili Trawangan where it’s a short walk to our accommodation. Once there we spend the afternoon partying by the pool. For dinner, we explore the local markets for some of the freshest fish you’ll ever eat!  Then it’s time to party in the many beachside bars on the island!

Day 8

We enjoy the day island hopping on our boat trip around the three Gili Islands, we head to some of the best snorkel spots in Indonesia where you will see stunning coral, beautiful fish, turtles and even a shipwreck. In between that, we stop off on Gili Air for a beach front lunch.

Day 9

Getting on the only mode of transport that the island has (push bike) we spend the day cycling around the island and watch an amazing sunset before our farewell dinner and party to celebrate the best 10 days of your life!

Day 10 – Check out day!

Check out day! The fun doesn’t stop here if you’re traveling on our expert Group Leaders will help you book everything you need to get to where you’re heading whether that be on to some more islands or back to the airport to catch a flight.

No, flights to your destination are not included and you will need to book them yourself however we can help you! Also, we will be at the airport to meet you once you arrive.

Yes, lots of people come on our trips alone, its a great way to meet new people and you will never feel alone from the moment you arrive as you will instantly be travelling with an awesome group of like-minded people.
There no age limits on our trips however most of our travellers are between 18 and mid 30’s. Remember you’re only as old as you feel! 
It depends on your nationality and which destination you are travelling to. For full visa information please check the Indonesian embassy website

Everyone spends differently so it’s hard for us to give an exact amount but we usually recommend around £150 – £250 per week is sufficient for you to have an epic time. All your activities, transport and accommodation is covered by us so you just need to worry about what your food, drink and shopping which is usually pretty cheap in Asia. Please note we can not be held responsible if you start popping bottles of champagne on the first night and run out of money 🙂
Ideally its best to arrive on the start date of the tour however you can arrive up to 2 days before and we will still pick you up from the airport.
No we can pick you up from the airport at any time of day or night so you can pick the best flight that works for you.
Yes as long as you stay at our hotel and are arriving within 2 days of your start date. We can reserve you a room for you to pay for the additional nights on arrival. Please contact us about this at the time of booking.

For most of our destinations, you don’t need any specific vaccinations however its always good to check with your doctor to make sure you have an up to date tetanus jab. We do however recommend you take a course of malaria tablets if travelling to Vietnam on one of our trips as a precaution. 


Food is usually not included in our tours however we do include occasional meals on day trips. We do also head out every evening for a group dinner at some awesome our favourite spots.


Your group leader will get in touch with you a week before your trip to confirm your meeting time/flight details and to introduce themselves. 


If you have an allergy you must let us know as we will make your group leader aware. We also recommend printing out allergy cards in the local language. These cards can be easily found on google and are great to carry as they can be shown to the restaurants we eat at to explain your allergy in depth and make sure nothing gets lost in translation.


Our accommodation is mainly in twin share accommodation in some awesome hotels. You will always be sharing a room with someone of the same sex from your group. We do sometimes stay in dorm accommodation which will be exclusive to our tour group. We use the best accommodation in each location and we have been using them for many years. Its extremely safe.

We head out every evening as a group for dinner and often drinks. We take you to some of the coolest spots around as well as some hidden gems we’ve discovered over the years. This is not part of the itinerary so you do not have to participate but we try to maximise your adventure.[/toggle]


We would always recommend a backpack. Suitcases are not ideal for Asia as even if your suitcase has wheels its very hard to pull it across the beach. If its your first time with a backpack, you’ll never look back after.


We are not going to force anyone to do anything they might not want to do so if you’re not confident on a push bike and want to sit out a bike ride or not a fan of open water and want to stay on the boat during snorkelling thats absolutely fine, its your adventure!


Yes we try and balance our itineraries with a nice balance of awesome activities and free time to explore the local surroundings, shop or even get a well earned massage.

There are ATMs readily available in all of our destinations so we would recommend getting a travel card with good rates and withdrawing cash locally rather than carrying big amounts with you. If you are going to bring cash you would get a better rate if you exchanged in Asia so bring your home currency with you. [/toggle]

On Arrival

There are picture opportunities from the start with the gorgeous views and scenery as you descend into Cody Airport where you and the rest of the group will be greeted by head wrangler.

As soon as you’re relaxed and ready for a good night’s rest, the team will take you to your cabin to get settled in. The next morning, on your first full day, you will have a horse specifically matched for you to guarantee you have the perfect horse for you to bond with throughout the whole three weeks. Once you’ve found your new friend, a professional instructor will teach you how to get into the swing of things. After all, that’s what it’s all about: the horses and having fun.

Life on the Ranch

You will get the true feeling of All-American ranch life every single day with activities on the itinerary including Herding Cattle (we have around 40 head), Riding up Mountains, Barrel Racing, Wrangling horses into camp and A chore here and there to keep the camp and yourself happy.

So, if you wanted to get out and about for a meal in a bar or restaurant, you’re absolutely welcome to. There is no alcohol served at the ranch (we believe booze and horses don´t mix well, but you can head out to the local saloon to getting to know your new friends. The  ‘Silver Dollar’ bar is the local watering hole. There you can  unwind, grab a bite to eat and a well-deserved drink. You might even meet some All-American cowboys.

I know you’ve probably read all this thinking, “yes it sounds perfect, where’s the catch with the price?” For three whole weeks in the stunning area of the Rocky Mountains USA with everything apart from flights.

Come on now, would you rather spend your money this summer on a trip of a lifetime or on booze in the local pub? I know what I’d do.

Your Role
You will also participate in activities with weekly groups who visit the ranch from Sunday to Friday each week. These activities include vet days (vaccinating horses), trail riding, riding fence (inspecting and replacing fences that local wildlife damage), moving cattle, clinics, riding with groups of youths, adults and parents.

And you will also have the opportunity to participate in additional activities including longer rides, trips to town and special clinics that run over the weekends.

You will have the amazing opportunity to ride and bond with your horse each day on the ranch. You will also complete the chores associated with riding, as a team. During your 3-week placement you will truly get to experience the Western lifestyle and country from the back of a horse.

Your three weeks will be spent  Near Cody, Wyoming. This is located very close to Yellowstone National Park in a truly beautiful part of the USA. Think wide-open spaces, endless views and incredible terrain for riding.

Accommodation will be a shared a 2-4 person cabin on the ranch. Your meals will be served in the ‘Hub’ which comprises of dining room and kitchen area with a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside!

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

Alcohol is not allowed or served at the ranch. Horses and alcohol don’t mix well. Besides that you will be very active during this trip, out for many hours during the day, so in the evenings you will probably be pretty tired. You do have the option to go into town weekends. Please note the drinking age in the USA is 21.
We do not allow people to book a fourth week until the second week of their stay, which makes changing airline tickets a problem, but in our experience, is best for you and for us as participants don’t know until they have been here for a couple of weeks whether they really want to stay longer.
You do not need any previous experience of horse riding, or working with horses to apply for this program. Clearly, if you do have previous riding ability, then you will be up to cover more, but if you have not had any experience of horses do not let that stop you. One thing is for sure, however, after your three weeks up here, you will be somewhat of an expert on horseback.
This program is open to people of all ages. There are no age limits, and you are welcome to join whether you are 17 (with parental consent), 18 to 80. We usually have an average of eight guests at one time.
We recommend that everyone bring their own helmet and riding boots.  We cannot provide helmets as they must fit properly and most people want to wear their own for hygienic reasons.  
They do need to bring their riding helmet and heeled boots (not hiking boots) for riding, as well as their sleeping bag, pillow and other personal items. We’ll send you out a full packing list as part of your predeparture pack after you have paid in full.
There’s no weight limit but if you are over 16 stone please let us know before booking so we can ensure we have a horse suitable for you.
People may arrive in Cody, WY (airport code COD) whenever they want (if they arrive a day or two early for any reason, we can provide them with a link to local hotels and motels). Most people arrive on the start day. We pick up everyone at the airport at the time of the last arriving flight on Sunday night, which is usually between 8:30-9:00 p.m. Sunday evening. If their flights arrive earlier in the day, they may sit at the airport (very small, one baggage claim carousel) and work on their computers/IPhones, or share a taxi into Cody ($10 per car load) with other Interns who might have arrived early

After the three-week Internship, we take people back to Cody in time to catch the first departing flight on Friday morning, usually leaving the ranch about 4:30 a.m.  If they leave later, we drop them at the place of their choice.  If not the airport, they need to find their way back in time for their flight.

If people book the two-week session you can depart on either the  Friday morning or Saturday morning – we can take you to your flight either day. 

We recommend 250USD spending money to cover extra actvities during your stay. This includes entrance fees to Cody Nite Rodeo, Thermopolis Hot Springs, car rental and entry fee for Yellowstone National Park, white water rafting or tubing the Big Horn River, Dinosaur Center, Buffalo Bill Historical Center Museum (affiliated with the Smithsonian), special meals out, fuel contribution  (since they usually don’t rent a car except for Yellowstone).  It does NOT include clothes and other personal items.  Whether they are here for two or three weeks, they will probably want to squeeze in most of these activities.

This fantastic opportunity will see you working side by side with these majestic creatures, ensuring that they are fed, washed and kept happy the entire time you spend on the project.

THAILAND ETHICAL ELEPHANT PROJECT

GROUP VOLUNTEERING AND TRULY MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The elephant experience is an exciting, fun-filled way to get to know the Asian elephant. The elephant is iconic throughout Thailand and you’ll have the chance to learn about them and just how important they are to the people of Thailand.
Spending time in a rural village, you and your fellow travellers will help the local people care for the elephants. It’s a hands-on, action packed insight into the real Thailand.

The main highlight of this trip and also a really unique opportunity is not only to spend time with elephants, but also to live in a small rural Thai community, which is something which is fast becoming more and more difficult to experience. This is what it is all about. Living like the locals and truly immersing yourself in the culture of the people and the country.

Our project has been vetted to ensure it is ethically run. There is absolutely NO elephant riding by our guests.

While you are with us on the project, you will gain invaluable knowledge into the life of these elephants. By dedicating your time to the elephants, you will be helping to support them and their keepers and help guarantee that they are looked after.

WHERE? THE BEATING HEART OF THAILAND

Our amazing elephant project is Located in Surin, you will be surrounded by inspiring natural wonder, off the beaten track and far from the bustling streets that you would have seen in Bangkok.

We have about 35 elephants living in the elephant village, which is situated about 1 hour from the Cambodian border. Here you can indulge in a Thai cooking class and even brush up on your Thai with a Thai language lesson to really make your experience unforgettable. If you need to let out that inner adventurer, then you will also have the chance to kayak on the Mun river, which is part of the famous Mekong or pop over to Cambodia.

Volunteering on our projects is not only about seeing and experiencing an exotic destination but having a rewarding experience at the same time and truly giving back.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN BANGKOK

Arrival day, the moment you have been waiting for! The start to an awesome life changing Thailand trip! First off, if you have not been travelling before… it will be ok. We make it a hassle free arrival, the Xtreme Team will collect you from Suvarnabhumi Airport (the international airport in Bangkok) and take you to your super convenient Bangkok accommodation, which is a stone’s throw from the famous Khao San Road. The accommodation has a movie room, 2 pool tables, free WIFI and lots of Xtreme Gappers awaiting to join the adventure.

You will have the rest of the day/evening (depending on when you arrive), to relax after a long flight and meet the rest of your group. Tonight we head out for a delicious Thai meal (local payment about £2) and explore the buzzing Bangkok area!

DAY 2 : WELCOME ORIENTATION AND EXPLORE BANGKOK

We will take it easy and all meet up at around 10:00 am to start a “real exploration” of Bangkok. This will be lead by our group leader, who will be with you for the next 2 weeks.

Prepare to see incredible things as we include an awesome boat trip through the ancient waterways of Bangkok. Not only will you get to experience stunning traditional communities off the backpacker trail, but we will also take you to the majestic Wat Arun – The Temple of the Dawn, Wat Pho, which is home to the most important reclining Buddha in the whole of Thailand and Wat Phra Kaew –  The Grand Palace.

In the afternoon we head back to our guesthouse, just in time to freshen up and chill out before your ‘Welcome Dinner’ in the evening. After dinner, we are off to the infamous and exciting Khao San Road, the backpacker area of Bangkok,  where you will get a taste of the Thai nightlife.

DAY 3 – TRANSFER TO THE ELEPHANTS

Today we head to the elephant camp. We travel in a rustic train ride to Surin through Thailand’s largest national park, Khao Yai. In the western world we see are used to modern trains but in Thailand, the trains are much more rustic and fun! The train itself is an experience, with old style carriages that have their own special kind of unique character. Bring your camera for this because people back home will want to see just what we are talking about.

DAY 4-7 – VOLUNTEER AT THE ELEPHANT VILLAGE

Dear diary: Jackpot! If you are an elephant lover (and we’ll take a guess and say that you might be) then this will be the best part of your trip. You and your group will work together to make sure all of the elephants in the village are comfortable and well taken care of.
During your volunteer time in the elephant village, you will help feed and wash the elephants, play with them, plant crops and create vegetable gardens to create a sustainable source of food and more.

At the elephant village, you help the host family to look after the elephants and learn how elephants have been part of the fabric of life in this part of the world for generations. As you will be living so close to the Elephants, there will be plenty of opportunity to feed and interact with them.

General day-to-day activities include:

  • Walking and bathing the elephants at the river
  • Planting and harvesting food for the elephants
  • Learning to cook Thai food by helping to prepare dinner each evening
  • Kayaking and swimming in the river
  • Visiting the local market

DAY 8 – FREE DAYS OR ONWARD TRAVEL

If you are only volunteering with us for one week your adventure will come to an end. But don’t worry because the memories, the photos and the friends will last a lifetime.Well earned free-days. You will need a break, trust us. You can use this opportunity just chill or do a bit more exploring. Surin town is a super friendly place with a population of around 50,000 people. There are loads Khmer temples,  which means they will look very different to the ones you saw in Bangkok and Kanchanaburi. Surin is also famous for its really cool coffee shops to hang out in. If you are just looking for some fun in the sun, one of the local hotels lets you use their pool for a small fee for the day and for those with a bit more energy. There is a waterpark and a shopping mall if you want to do some souvenir shopping.

There are also some awesome restaurants in Surin and we recommend you have at least one visit to a huge ‘moo gratha’ buffet. For less than 150THB you cook your own food on a charcoal grill at your table and it’s as much as you can eat. Different meats, fish, prawns, vegetables, noodles and all sorts of other bits and pieces – and ice cream!  The best value in town and a great night out.

Your guide and our local team in Surin will be able to help you plan what you want to do and be on hand whenever you wish!

All weeks on the programme follow the same format: Monday to Thursday at the programme, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday free to soak up life in Surin and the surrounding areas.
Note that return travel to Bangkok is not included but is easy to arrange, our guides will sort you out!

ACCOMMODATION

You will split your time between the accommodation in Surin town and the Elephant village, but both are in dormitory style shared houses.
The rooms in Surin town are clean and comfortable, and all rooms are equipped with fans. The bathrooms are shared with your fellow travellers and have Western-style toilets. There is a basic kitchen for you to use, and of course, the accommodation has free WIFI!
The accommodation is located close to a supermarket, a pharmacy, ATM’s and lots of local street food vendors and small restaurants.

Living with elephants: Be prepared for living in a rural setting

Monday to Thursday afternoon are your activity days, so you will be living at the elephant village. This is back to basics Thai Style living, sleeping on floor mattresses and with up to 5 people to one room. The family who looks after the elephants live in a house on the same grounds, and so do the elephants.

The house at the elephant village is basic but clean, has plenty of fans to keep cool and has Western style toilets. There are hammocks for you to chill in and there is no wifi, so you are off the grid, and it will be amazing!

Trip Frequently Asked Questions:

Airport pick up times are between 06:00 and 22:00 on the start date and only from BKK international airport. (we can’t do pick ups from Don Muang – DMK – I’m afraid)

If someone is already in Thailand then they can either ‘make their own way’ to the BKK accommodation on the start day (information will be in the pre departure pack!) from 2pm on the start day.

As with the rest of Thailand, Surin can feel hot and sticky all year round. March to May are the hottest months of the year, whilst June to September is when most of the rain comes. November to February are the cooler and drier months of the year. During the winter months of November to February it can get chilly, especially in the morning and evening so be sure to bring along an extra sweater or jacket.
We have different size groups depending on the time of year, but generally you will be with between 5 and 20 volunteers.
All bedding is provided, but if you want to bring one, make sure it is feather light and not too warm.Or alternatively, take a duvet cover.
Yes, Thailand is basically the backpacking capital of the world and super traveller friendly and our ground staff are always there to help when needed
No problem, most of our travellers are solo travellers. You will meet loads of people, travellers and locals, and make new friends really easy.
If you are planning on travelling to Thailand for 30 days or less and you have British, Dutch or USA passport you can get a Visa exemption on arrival. This is valid for 30days and cannot be extended in Thailand. If you are planning on being in Thailand longer than 30 days you will need to pre-arrange a Visa. You can prearrange a visa for 60 days which you can extend to 90 days in Thailand.

Remember, obtaining the correct visa is your responsibility.

We offer airport pick up’s between 06:00 and 22:00 on arrival day and would encourage you to try to arrive at the airport by mid-afternoon so that you have time to freshen up, relax and then enjoy your first night in this amazing city. If you are arriving outside these times or are already in Thailand, then you are more than welcome to ‘make your own way’ to the Bangkok accommodation.
