This peru gap year trip is will open your eyes to the reality of life high up in the Andes for the local Indians, and can be one of the highlights of backpacking in South America.  This is a cultural exchange experience in Amantani where you will spend time with the locals and learn about their way of life.

Amantani Island is located on Lake Titicaca at an elevation of over 3800m. It is home to the pre-Inca Aymara people and visitors can experience the traditional way of life on the island with an overnight stay with a local family. This is a great opportunity to learn about very different cultures first hand, and while it is undoubtedly a tourism encouraged encounter, it is still the best way to actually learn about the culture of the people at Amantani.

You get to do this trip on the Round The World South America Trip as well as the Ecuador and Peru Travel Pass and Lima to La Paz Travel Pass trips.

We strongly encourage the exchange of a gift to your hosts, from books to colouring pens for the kids.
